As a Year 12 student in Australia, I am speaking I wish to speak in behalf of the millions of children around the world who are trapped in child labour, depriving them of their childhood, health and education, and condemning them to a life of poverty. According to the ILO (International Labour Organisation), 168 million children worldwide are engaged in child labour as of 2013. Many of these children are stuck in unacceptable work for a child, which is a serious violation of their rights, human rights.

Many people are oblivious to the fact that there are millions of children around the world dreaming of the lives that we have.
Here, we are able to truly live our lives. Here, we are able to enjoy our childhood. Here, we have a very high chance to be successful.
Education is a vital part of our identity as humans. plays a vital role in our success.
“The children are our future” – without education this saying would be meaningless.
Education plays a vital role in our success. Education is the weapon that you can use to open many doors. If you are educated you are less likely to be afraid of anything, you are more likely to be brave and confident.
What if the cure for cancer was in the brain of one of the child labourers who is deprived of their supposed education?
It is only through education that you’d have multiple level goals and a number of ways to reach them. You’d have dreams which transmute to thoughts and later into actions.

Unable to sustain their families on their own income, the parents feel that they have no choice but to push their children into child labour.
Whatever the reasons that pushed them into child labour, the unquestionable truth is that these kids are suffering. Every day… Every second.
In Pakistan there is an estimated 12 million child labourers
In Bangladesh there are 7.4 million child labourers
In India it is home to between 14 and 16.4 child labourers
In countries where child labour is at a very high percentage, poverty is the main reason. It’s a cycle of ‘It all started with poverty and ends with poverty’- but this should not be so.
Although we could not deny the fact that most cases of child labour started with poverty, together, we can end it with prosperity.
It will not be easy, but hey it is not impossible, like what Neil Armstrong said “..one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
What is right can never be impossible.
The numbers of child labourers are not going down. We cannot pretend that these things do not happen- because they do. And you – we know that all too
