Throughout the progression of early childhood stages up to young adulthood, you hear the question that is constantly getting asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” After hearing this question year after year, it really got me thinking about my future and life goals. The ability to learn and become educated to help people for the rest of your life says a lot about the type of person who puts others before themselves. This has inspired me to become that type of person and become a master at my future profession. After highschool, I want to go to college and study health and athletic training. Athletic trainers are health care providers who work with physicians and doctors to provide healthcare to the athletic population (Outreach 1). In order to become a successful Athletic trainer, an individual must have many of the common characteristics. They’re good at being social, providing advice, working in outdoor areas and problem solving. Athletic trainers need to be versatile and have the ability to perform active listening. They need to be able to give their full attention to the patient and be able to answer all questions asked. A top-notch, well rounded Athletic trainer should have the ability to monitor others while also staying aware of their surroundings. Athletic trainers (ATs ) should be open to learning new things and should understand working under pressure is very common. It is important for the trainer to get familiar with each individual patient while using their best judgement that benefits the athlete. For Athletic trainers the job lookout has been increasing and looks to continue that trend. It is supposed to grow 30% from 2010 to 2020, which is about 5,500 new jobs (Pacareerzone 2). There are three levels of jobs in an athletic training, all having a different yearly pay. They are educational, hospital and fitness training. The educational level includes state, local, and private jobs who generally make about $48,170 per year. For educational training, the job is working with high school and college teams. Hospitals along with state, local and private trainers make around $45,490 per year. Fitness level, which means working in sport centers or gyms earn $44,540 yearly (Statistics 6). Salaries as of March 1st 2018 ranged between $40,274-$49,634 (Naviance 3). Every city is in need for Athletic trainers which makes the job so popular and keeps it increasing.
