Abortion is unlike any other subject debated today; millions of women have aborted a child, and the loss, pain, and emotional need to justify what was done, both on the part of the mother and on the part of her loved ones. Abortion is a gut-wrenching debate that has been going on for centuries, and does not plan to cool off anytime soon. The Supreme Court case in 1973, Roe vs. Wade, placed abortion on the map for the United States. The result of the Roe vs. Wade case legalized abortion to protect women’s health, however the good intentions of the ruling opened the doors for people to take advantage of the case outcome. Approximately 1.06 million abortions took place in the United States in 2011, which goes to show that women maybe abusing the privilege of the rules set in place to protect their health and practicing abortion as a form of contraception. Abortion is not only a dangerous procedure for women to endure, however it is also unethical to abort a child. Abortion is immoral because life begins at conception, people need to live with the consequences and not take the easy way out, and there are other available options. Life begins at conception which occurs up to three days after sex depending on when the girl ovulates. At this point in the pregnancy cycle the fetus already has DNA, genes, and alleles. The sex, eye color and many other characteristics are already determined just three days in. Beings come into existence in one moment and gradually develop their world of potential. A human begins to exist at conception, even though only as a cell. What is important is not the size or weight but the fact that it is human. The unborn baby has an unchanging and unrepeatable genetic code that is unique from the moment of concep... ... middle of paper ... ...e things that can go wrong: Retained Tissue, Failure to Terminate the Pregnancy, Blood Clots in the Uterus, Infection, Hemorrhage, Cervical Tear, Perforation, Cardiac Arrest, and even death. After all is said and done there is no hiding the truth that abortion is unethical and wrong. The act of murdering someone’s own child is mindboggling and twisted, not to mention the procedure is not a guarantee to be full proof. Sex in the only way to conceive a child and if the couple is not ready for the possible outcome than they should think twice before engaging in intercourse. Although abortion may have been designed for good intentions to protect a mom at risk, the negative consequences have been taken advantage of by over 1 million people in today’s time. Killing a child has never been permitted and by keeping abortion legal that is exactly what the US is approving.

Abortion, which is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, is one of the most controversial issues in society. Many people believe that abortion is unethical and morally wrong, while others believe that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body. According to www.census.gov, “the number of abortions performed annually in the U.S. has leveled off at 1.2 million a year” (1). This statistic supports how many women are choosing abortion. Although abortion is legal in the United States, many people continue to voice their opinions on how it is a human rights violation and should be illegal everywhere. The practice of abortion should be banned in society because it terminates the life of an innocent unborn child, causes long-term emotional effects, as well as major health risks for women who opt for abortion.
For some, abortion is a touchy subject like politics and religion. In America, abortion has always been a controversial topic of discussion. The Supreme Court in the case Roe vs Wade case set the way of guidelines and the right for women to have an abortion if she chooses. In 2015 abortions is still an ongoing debate amongst religious groups, politicians and normal citizens. People that are for the rights of women to abort are often criticized and ridiculed for standing up for their personal beliefs. There are people who have conditioned their minds to think that women should not be allowed to have abortions if she was not raped or a result of incest, which I strongly disagree with that type of thinking. However, it is the law of the land, it is a women’s right to choose and she has to live with the psychological effects of her choice.
Abortion has been the topic of controversy for many decades. Many people believe that when a woman terminates a pregnancy, she is committing murder and others argue that a woman has the right to choose life or abortion. There are different procedures to choose when having an abortion, depending on the gestational age and the woman 's health a pill form abortion may be used up to 9 weeks gestation (mifepristone and misoprostol), but for women who are over 12-weeks gestation (late-term abortion), surgical abortion is used (Berer 25). In 1973, the supreme court ruled that abortion was to be legalized, Roe vs. Wade. Women were given the legal right to choose to terminate their pregnancies and make the correct arrangements for their decisions. Different states have different restrictions to accessing abortion procedures, making the woman 's choice to terminate pregnancy less accessible. Restricting a woman 's access to appropriate abortion clinics limits her right to choose.
Abortion is a legal process, therefore it should be seen as acceptable if a women decides to go through this process. Yet, abortion is definitely not a cut and dry subject. There are many issues to address before making such permanent decision, but a woman has the right to decide what happens to their body. Although you may get easily judged for it, abortion is an option to take in some situations.
...ions over her own body; whether it is parenthood, adoption, contraception, or yes, abortion. After all, it is entirely plausible for people to be personally pro-life but politically pro-choice – this suggests that they respect each individuals’ rights over his or her own body and recognize that each woman should be allowed to have options. Regardless of whether or not she chooses to have the child, it is the fact that she has a choice that is crucial, and it is imperative that each woman have the freedom of individual autonomy. In order for this to occur, abortion must continue to be legal. Ultimately, being pro-choice is not necessarily advocating the use of abortion – it is about ensuring that abortion is legal so that women may have the option to exercise their right to individual autonomy and make the decisions that best reflects their stance in life.
Whether or not abortion should be legal in the United States is one of the most controversial and heated issues to date. Abortion is defined as “a medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus.” Abortion was made legal in the United States on January 22, 1973 as an outcome of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court case. In this case, the court recognized for the first time that if abortion were to remain illegal, the United States would be continuing to violate the constitutional right to privacy which “is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy” (Roe v. Wade, 1973). Though millions of safe and professional abortions have been performed since legalization, Americans still debate
Today’s society is made up of such an abundant number of controversial issues. One of the most controversial issues being abortion- the act of intentionally termination a pregnancy resulting in the death of the fetus (Kreider, A. personal communication, March 24, 2011). Abortion is both constitutionally and morally wrong, and should be illegal in the United States in all but two cases: if the mother was raped (and pregnancy was as a result of the rape) or if the mother’s life would be put in endangerment by the pregnancy. Abortion is murder at any stage of pregnancy, and acts against the U.S. Constitution. Not only does abortion harm innocent babies, but abortion also rises the risk of medical complications for the mother. Majority of women who choose to abort regret the decision later in life. There is always a way to prevent pregnancy, and if by some chance pregnancy does occur and the baby is not wanted there are other options besides abortion.
The Supreme Court’s decision in the infamous Roe v. Wade case struck down state laws prohibiting abortion, thus making the killing of an unborn baby legal in all 50 states. There are millions of unborn babies killed each year. Over 40 million unborn babies have been killed in the 40 years that abortion was legalized and more than 1.2 million are killed each year in the United States. Sadly, this has not deterred those who think a woman’s “right” to an abortion is more important than the baby’s right to
You may ask yourself, is abortion moral or immoral, is it politically correct, is it legal? The answer to that is in the process of being solved. Day by day politicians and the United States congress are debating that same question. Do you really want to kill thousands of fetuses each year? Those fetuses would soon turn into little babies, whom would turn into kids, and those kids will soon turn into the future of the United States, those adults will then be the leaders of America. Abortion remains and will always be one of the topics discussed in the U.S. courtrooms.
Those problems can vary from Placenta previa, infections, and also physiological. Placenta previa occurs 6 to 15 times more often after a woman has had an abortion. (AbortionFacts) This causes the woman to bleed excessively during the pregnancy and could also kill the baby if not removed in time. After just one abortion, a woman’s risk of secondary infertility is 3 to 4 times greater than that among women who have not aborted.(AbortionFacts) When one receives an abortion, an infection can occur and cause a mild fever all the way to death. An infection happens from 1 in 4 women to 1 in 50 women. After an abortion a laceration of the Cervix can happen. This causes you to have nearly a 50/50 chance of miscarrying in your next pregnancy if it is not treated properly during that pregnancy. A high incidence of cervical damage from the abortion procedure has raised the incidence of miscarriage 30-40% in women who have had abortions.(AbortionFacts) Another health complication is breast cancer, which medical research shows, that there is a 50% chance of occurring in a woman who has had an aborted pregnancy.(AbortionFacts) The physical dangers are evident but also are the emotional dangers of having an abortion. The argument Pro-Choice advocates use is that when a woman aborts her pregnancy, she is able to relieve herself from the responsibility of caring for a child. Since the
Abortion has been one of the most talked about topics in society just about anywhere from television, magazines, whether or not it should be the right or wrong thing to do. Abortion is a very sensitive issue to discuss, because of its nature. Many people have said that abortion is a very bad thing to do and it should not even be choice whether or not to abort a living fetus. People think that abortion is committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. However, others feel that a woman should have a voice and have the right to choose to keep the child or not and that it is not murder until the baby is born. Majority of individuals who believe that abortion is bad say that the fetus is human who is partly being formed and to have an abortion is considered to be murder. For the people who think an abortion is ok, say that it’s not considered murder unless the child is born. I believe that abortion should be seen in which the stage the fetus is in. if the fetus is in an early stage of pregnancy it is not considered murder, but if the fetus has already began to develop into a larger fetus then it is indeed considered to be murder. There are times when abortion can be accepted, if the mother is having complications due to pregnancy. For example if the mother is enduring complications in her pregnancy that can harm her, because of the child in that case it is ok to perform an abortion to help save the mother’s life. It is also very important to understand this type of situation. The mother has the right to have an abortion and it is her decision because a mother knows best about her health conditions.
The topic of abortion has been a controversial issue in America and each side cannot come to an agreement. Many people believe women should be able to make their own decision because it is their own body and because the baby is not born yet so it is not a human. While others believe once the fetus is formed, it is considered a human and has individual rights, and that aborting that baby is murder. Today, about twenty one percent of pregnancies will end with an abortion. Abortion must be illegal unless the safety of the women is in jeopardy, or due to rape or incest. Abortion takes the innocent life of a human being no matter how small, and it is murder.
Abortion. “An abortion is the premature exit of the products of conception (the fetus, fetal membranes, and placenta) from the uterus” (medicinenet.com). We hear that abortion should be a women’s choice, or that it should be illegal. My thought on the entire situation is that it shouldn’t be illegal but it also shouldn’t be legal. The term “Abortion” means to literally kill the fetus or embryo that is inside of you at that very moment. According to the “Planned Parenthood” website, there are two ways to get rid of said fetus. The first way is the “Pill”, this pill comes in two separate parts the first part is a pill that detaches the embryo from the wall of the uterus and the second one is the one that actually kills the embryo or fetus. Basically
One of the most debated subjects throughout the world is abortion. Abortion is the premature termination of pregnancy by spontaneous or induced expulsion of a nonviable fetus from the uterus (Dictionary). In certain circumstances, abortion could be beneficial for the mother with factors such as: age, rape, financial stability, and complications that could long-term harm the potential mother and child. Women of all ages are entitled to their right to abort regardless of how morally right or wrong it may be. Some people believe abortion goes against their religious and cultural backgrounds. However, other people believe because it is the woman’s body they should be liable to do as they please. Whatever the situation
Abortion by definition means the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy (Dictionary reference). This is a controversial issue having no grounds of agreement among two aspects. The fight between pro-life and pro-choice supporters has been long and brutal. Abortion is a big topic in this generation today because of having uncontrolled hormones, and the miss connection of love and responsibility. Considering American values and ethics, death is morally wrong. With that being said, the killing of an unborn fetus is wrong as well. Abortion has become common in America, which is understandable. On the other hand women should be held responsible for their actions in choosing to have sexual intercourse,
