Self-assessments can provide insight into the perceived areas of strength and opportunity of the person taking the test. These types of assessments are also used in the business world to identify untapped skills, and allow people to understand better themselves and their colleagues. The self-assessment in this week’s reading assignment asked students to rate each of 30 skills, honestly, from good to poor (Bethel University, 2014). Areas for assessment included skills such as reading, mathematics, and goal setting, among many others. The areas in which I scored lowest were seeking support from others, the ability to focus on one thing at a time, and the planning and organization topics. The ability to focus is a new challenge that has arisen in recent years, as my work has required the ability to do many things simultaneously. Seeking support from others has always been a challenge and is something I struggle to overcome. The areas in which I scored the …show more content…
This group determined that, when receiving articles and papers from a variety of different sources, a singular format and style would make reading and understanding the materials far easier. The rules and guidelines of APA style are in place to provide students, academics, and others a framework within which to work when composing a piece of writing. By implementing the APA system of rules and guidelines as a requirement for coursework, faculty can easily move from one student’s work to another and know exactly where to find references, and understand the student’s intention in citing the work of others. The consistent format allows a standard by which all students’ work can be measured, taking out the elements of style preference that could otherwise result between professors. Having guidelines allows for the easy comparison of one piece of writing against another, as the formatting styles are the
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.

...and a variety of other important topics. Although the APA style rules are used in this template, the purpose of the template is only to demonstrate spacing and the general parts of the paper. The student will need to refer to the APA manual for other format directions. A sample reference page is included below; however, this page includes special spacing and formatting. The examples on the following page include examples taken directly from the APA manual.
APA style was formed by a body of psychologist and business managers striving to make the scientific writing more persistent. This style of writing is regularly used to give credit to an writer’s work being used. Students can use sources such as journals, interviews, observations, and books to research information. When the APA form is being used, the author’s last name goes first followed by the first name along with the year it was published and the source. References are listed at the end of the writing.
Writing is an essential part of the day-to-day work in the academic community, so everyone in it should excel in this skill and follow the essential writing conventions. By being a part of Writing 39 B class, I have studied many important rules of the academic writing, which will help me to succeed in my future career. One of the conventions, which I have learnt in this class, is that while working with academic sources, one should always properly introduce and expand every quote and cite each source in correct MLA format. In the beginning of the course I neglected this rule, I made mistakes in the MLA format and even finished my RA essay with a quote without describing how it related to the main idea. However, after attending Professor’s classes
Assessment is an essential part in the classroom that focuses not only in a grade for a certain task or a final result. Thus, it is considered important to make clear the different views and concepts that assessment, self- assessment and self- grading carry out in the learning process. This brief review provides information about the key construct self- assessment and the cyclical
One of my personal goals in PC700 was to become more familiar with APA writing skills using the APA manual. Although I feel I still have much to learn when it comes to writing and using APA, I do have an increase in confidence when comparing to the beginning of this semester. I was able to effectively label common areas on the
Self-assessment has gained much attention in recent years; emphasizing on learner independence and autonomy and it has significant pedagogic value (M Patri, 2002). Students need to know about their abilities, how much progress they are making and what they can do with the skills they have acquired. Without such knowledge, it wouldn’t be easy for them to learn efficiently. From an educational viewpoint, knowing to what extent students can evaluate their own performance is also important. Students can do it correctly and then then don’t need to depend on their teachers and so the teacher can find out students’ needs. John Upsher (1975) was one of the first who provided a rationale for the use of self-assessment in the

Career Self-Assessment tests provide individuals with tools they can use to choose the right career path for their future. The use of a career self- assessment test reveals to the individual where they are strongest in talent, interest and potentially overall successful. The use of the assessment could change a person’s life forever. Jeff is a manager who has been using Career Self- Assessment tests with this staff for many years. “Assessment is one of the most effective instructional strategies to increase learning.” (Edutopia)When teachers think about assessment quality, they often focus on the accuracy of the instrument itself- the scope of which the assessment item tasks and scoring rubrics produce accurate information. It is imperative to use the different testing technique to improve learning. By taking tests, students can establish that they are independently capable of expressing their understanding of the material. I will have an opportunity to analyze each student's understanding and ability to apply learned information. I can then decide whether the
Well I guess I’ll start off this paper by being outright honest. I have never done this type of self-assessment exercise. So I’ll start this paper off with what exactly this type of self-assessment is. These types of self-assessments are meant to help show the individual (me) where my strengths lie and also where my weaknesses are as well so that I may try and lean on my strengths while improving on my own shortcomings. Essentially the Johari Window four regions model that we learned about is a great tool for this assessment. The first region is also known as the open area, which essentially means that this is what is known by the person about him/herself and is also know by others. The second region is known as the blind area in which this is information unknown by the individual but is known by others. Which could be behaviors that an individual does but does not realize that they are doing them. The third window is known as the hidden area. This area is essentially information that only you know about yourself and others do not. The fourth area is known as the unknown area. It’s known as that because this is information that you and others do not know about you. It’s when you take a look at these four areas and see your strengths and/or weaknesses are at and if you allow yourself to become open to feedback you then can improve on your own shortcomings and become a better leader.
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science. Self Assessment is the first step in my successful future.
