Literature and the writing process have the ability to absorb a reader’s attention for their ability to create new realities. It is clear to all readers that each writer has his or her own personal writing style and tone. Not only does each writer have uniqueness, each writer also possesses their own strengths and weaknesses. Weakness can come in grammar, time management, creativity, and much more. Due to experience, I have become aware of many weaknesses in my writing. Through my Dual Credit Composition I course, I have specifically learned the importance of effort through nervousness, passion, and disinterest. Beginning the course with our entrance essay, my nerves were shot. Prior to this course, I had only taken sophomore English III. As expected, I was both nervous and anxious as my first college essay approached. I panicked, cried, and had a mental breakdown by the time my paper was complete. However, the nerves created by my first paper “An Ongoing Journey: Attributes of my Writing” led me to put much effort into the writing process. In this specific module, we were allowed to choose our own topic, so I chose Down syndrome. I am extremely passionate about that subject, which led me to assume that I could easily slack off in effort, but still make the grades I hoped for. Although I waited until the last minute to complete this assignment, I still had background knowledge, which helped me with writing my paper. When I received a ninety-two on my paper “Behind the Scenes of Special Souls,” I noticed that a lack of effort was not going to keep my grades in their normal high-A range.
