Dan Weaver INFO540 Assignment 5 1. Text chapter 9, discussion question 1 (p.352). Write a detailed answer, using authoritative sources. IS organizations will no longer need to develop a proprietary infrastructure; they can just rely on the Internet. Therefore, they will again focus mainly on developing applications. Proprietary infrastructure vs a cloud based infrastructure has been a debate for a few years now. There is a huge push now to use cloud based infrastructures but the choice which to use seems to be organizational specific. A proprietary infrastructure consists of physical servers or a physical host to create VMs. A company would need an IT staff to manage these resources or hire a managed service provider. This solution will also require a need to refresh your hardware, renew software licenses, perform upgrades, and extend warranties every five to seven years. Some disadvantages to this solution are: initial capital investment, hardware replacement every 5-7 years, and IT maintenance and support. (1) A cloud based solution offers some unique advantages to an organization as well. Depending on the size of the organization, some small to mid-level organizations might not want to manage everything on site. Cloud vendors relieve the headaches of cooling and housing physical servers and have their own staff for managing the hardware. (2) This allows a smaller organization to invest their capital into other business areas (... ... middle of paper ... ... new native mobile device interactions (fingers instead of the mouse; multi-touch gestures; turn, tilt and rotate) and technological features such as phone functions, built-in GPS and accelerometer. 5. Disregard of context. A lack of understanding of how, when, where and why the mobile application is being used. (3) [1] "Creative Bloq." The 10 Principles of Mobile Interface Design.
