Small business economics, 40(3), 651-670. This quantitative study looked at two types of job satisfaction; job satisfaction based on the type of work, and job satisfaction based on job security from a self-employed and paid employee perspectives. Using data from the European Community Household Panel (ECHP) from the period 1994 to 2001, targeting people living in private homes among EU nations, the authors’ findings revealed that self-employed individuals are more likely to be satisfied with their present jobs with regard to the type of work, and less likely to be satisfied in terms of job security.
