One of the most controversial issues surrounding American politics is the issue of abortion. Abortion is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as, “The termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The proponents believe that abortion is a fundamental right of all women since she has a right to control her own body. However, the opponents believe the termination of a pregnancy is murder because of the fact the embryo or fetus is an alive unborn human being who deserves equal rights to his or her mother and should be granted the right to life. Nevertheless, the proponents believe that abortion is not murder since a fetus in not a living child so it does not deserve equal rights to its mother. Although a woman deserves a right to control her body, she should never have the right to bring to an end the life an unborn living child within her.
Possibly one of the proponent’s strongest arguments for the right of the women’s choice to be allowed to have an abortion is her right to privacy. For instance, one prominent proponent, Margaret Sanger, once argued, “It is none of Society’s business what a woman shall do with her body.” The proponents generally consider abortion “rooted in the right to privacy,” …show more content…

During illegal abortion are usually, “performed by lay people who did not have the proper training” (O’Connor 60). They fear for the lack of equipment and method used if abortions were made illegal (60). Also illegal abortions put women in unnecessary risk of incomplete abortions, infection, and death (O’Connor 60).
