Abortion is a very serious situation, one out of four women goes through with an abortion; most of these women are under the age of eighteen. Most people believe abortion should stay legal, because they feel that abortion is helpful in their situations. But there is also a handful of people believe abortion should defiantly be illegal, because they feel that having an abortion is not a useful procedure. In most cases people would have to agree with the handful of people that are against abortion, unless in serious cases because abortion happens way too much. Another reason for abortion to be legal is if the mother had done drugs or drank lots of alcohol, while being pregnant.
The alternative is surgical abortion, which ends a pregnancy by emptying the uterus or womb with special instruments. “A medical abortion is usually done without entering the uterus” (Nathanson 14). Either of two medications, methotrexate or mifepristone, can be used for medical abortion. “In September 2000, the Food and Drug Administration approved mifepristone for use in the U.S.”(Nathanson 16). Each of these medications is taken together with another medication, misoprostol, to induce an abortion.
This only makes up about 1% of all abortions” (Agrestic). The fact is that most abortions are done because of the mother is not wanting children at the time. With this being debated abortion should not be a huge problem in the America. Abortion should only be allowed if the woman is raped and or if she has health problems. There are many ways to have an abortion and it can or cannot cause serious problems.
(Jones) That is four in ten babies that never get to see the light of day. And that isn’t even counting the illegal or accidental abortions that also occur in the U.S. All of this occurs because of one decision that is far from simple, life or death. That decision is ultimately up to the mother carrying the baby, except for the few states which have laws stating a parental guardian must agree if the mother to be is a minor. But that decision is not one that should ever be taken lightly. Abortion has becomes well known, and is sure to start an argument between two disagreeing people.
Many people are against abortions because it is unmoral, however, many fetuses have gone through this horrible procedure. In the 14th amendment, it states that a woman has the right to determine whether or not to bear a child. Abortion isn’t the only answer to get rid of a “problem” that happened. People have to think that adoption is always an option for a couple or even a single mother. The fetus is human and has human characteristics just like a human being.
This brings him to the point that if it is immoral to murder a toddler then why is it any less immoral to kill a fetus when they are virtually the same? (Klusendorf). Many people hold the same or similar mindset when it comes to the ethics of abortions. Although religion and morals cause people to oppose abortion, another reason why people oppose abortion is because of the death and mental effects it brings to a woman. “Abortion...is often an emotional experience for the woman...Guilt, sadness, and anger are common feelings that may persist for some time or reemerge years later” (“Abortion”).
It’s basically just a way of saying “Hey, this person doesn’t deserve to live because I don’t want them to. ” In fewer than several cases, women get abortions for an “understandable” reason. Rape, with the case of incest is the only understandable reason in which I think abortion should be “legal”. First off, the child would be weirdly related to the mother, father & whatever other extra family members there are. Not to mention incest is legally forbidden.
No time limit was set, but in general practise it is advised that the pregnancy shouldn't have passed the 28th week, although this was reduced to 24 weeks in 1990. The situations above are all valid reasons for abortion, however there are many other reasons that women seek abortion, even if the foetus is perfectly healthy. For instance, if continuing the pregnancy would destroy, or dramatically change the women's future plans, or if the women couldn't emotionally or financially support a child. Also, women are often scared they will reject the child and not want to care for it, as it was a result of an un-wanted pregnancy. This is extremely common among... ... middle of paper ... ...e a right to control their own fertility and decide when they want a baby.
The people that are for abortion may say every woman has a choice whether or whether not to have an abortion. Abortion should be legal because it reduces the crime rate and makes it safer for women. (Donohue, John) Abortion should be legal because if a woman is sexually abused by their husband, a family member, or even by a stranger, she may or may not want to live with what her sexual abuser has done to her. The woman only option left may be abortion because she may think abortion is the only way out. Others may think it would be better if the woman carrying the fetus should carry the fetus to full term and just give the baby up for adoption instead of turning to adoption for a way out.
Mifepristone has been used, in combination with other medications for medical abortions since 1988. Mifepristone is a steroid that works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is necessary to sustain pregnancy. Without this hormone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, the cervix (opening of the uterus or womb) softens and bleeding begins. I think that the RU-486 abortion pill should be encouraged because taking it is a pro-choice decision, the rare health risks and it could help reduce injuries and deaths caused by unsafe illegal abortions. Being pro-choice advocates a womans right to control her own body, especially her right to an induced abortion (The Free Dictionary).
