Were there any moments when your gender was a help or hindrance in a particular job or educational experience? Is there anything about being “male” or being “female” that you can see encouraged the choices you made? If you were a different gender would you have made different choices?
Looking back at the course material, what one concept that you learned in this class helps you to understand yourself and your educational and occupational history? Please describe the concept and show how it applies to your history. How could you see gender making a difference in your education or career going forward?
The Cirque Management position from June 1999 to April 2002 as well as my position for Apartment Management Consultants (AMC, LLC) from April 2002 to February 2012 my gender was a reason for my being chosen for the position of Leasing Agent. I was told that my looks were a large consideration for the position because they felt that Leasing Agents who are attractive can bring in and tend to close more leases.
As a female, it led to my decision having limited experience that I would be drawn to a place of work that typically hires female
This decision was based off on previous experience with my teachers who made learning an exciting process and also the historical trips my dad took us on that taught us history, cultures, battles, gender and society. Oddly enough, I chose another female dominant position, but at least in this case I will be making a difference and that will be important to another person. Men do not have a dominance as to being better teachers and women are naturally instinctive by nature to the needs of children.
