When many people think of hunting they think of cruel, evil people senselessly killing innocent animals. What they don’t realize is that hunting is a passed down tradition and a way for people to bond with others who share a love for the sport. There are two main types of hunting: bowhunting and hunting with a rifle. There are strict rules and regulations that apply to hunting, so someone can’t just go out and start shooting up all the animals. Before anyone can hunt, they have to pass a class and a field test in order to get their license. Without a license, you can’t buy tags. A tag is a paper that you buy in order to be able to kill an animal. You can hunt many different types of animals from birds to bears, but in this essay I will be talking specifically about big game. Big game is referred to as deer, elk, bear, and cougar. Although many people believe that big game hunting should be banned in the United States, they overlook the fact that hunting does more good than harm. Many people use the meat that they have harvested while hunting as a main food source for themselves and their families. One could argue that is easier to just buy store bought meat. While it is easier to buy meat from a store, it’s cheaper and healthier to hunt your own meat. In his article, J. Townsend talks about store bought meat vs. hunting
These figures are shocking and unexpected. For calling themselves animal activists, they haven’t really helped any animals. This proves that hunters are the largest source of conservation funding in the United States, by far surpassing the animal rights
When a Minnesota dentist killed a prized African lion named "Cecil" he received an onslaught of criticism and reignited the debate concerning big game hunting. Is big game hunting wrong? Should big game hunting continue? Big game hunting has been a very controversial topic for some time and these types of questions are being asked daily. There are a lot of people for it and a lot of people against it. This issue causes a lot of extreme behaviors and ideas by both sides. Those who oppose it believe it to be morally wrong, unfair to the animals and damaging to the environment. Those individuals for it believe that it is the citizens' rights and a way to be involved in the environment. Hunting is the law and shall not be infringed upon. In defense of the hunters' I believe that there are five main issues of concern.
For centuries humans have survived thanks to the ability we have to adapt. One of this amazing activities that helped us is hunting. Unfortunately as we have changed throughout time, hunting has been degenerated into what’s called Trophy hunting. Have you ever heard this phrase before? Well if you haven’t, trophy hunting is when people kill any kind of animal, simply for keeping their bodies as a souvenir for the brutal and ferocious action they’ve just committed.
They are a parasite; like a flea on a dog, or ringworm on a cat. They attach themselves to a location like other parasites attach to a host animal, roaming free to do damage as they please. Wild hogs are a nuisance animal that have quickly become overpopulated and under hunted. Many animal rights activist want to end or strictly regulate the hunting of these destructive creatures; however, these animals were not meant to wander wild the way that they do, once domesticated animals released for sport have quickly adapted to their environment and become the beasts they are today. Many states already allow hunters to go out all year long and hunt for the feral swine; however, in Arkansas, the current hunting law is that a hunter can take a wild hog while legally hunting another animal. Hunters should be able to go out and hunt for wild hogs, not be limited to killing them as they cross their paths or if they are spotted on their land. The only stipulations that should be placed on hog hunting are that the hunter must have knowledge of hunter’s education and a valid state
“The decrease in numbers and even the disappearance of many large predators due to habit loss and inbreeding has made hunting a necessity for controlling the population size of certain prolific species, such as deer and geese” (Source 2). The number of species generally deemed as prey has skyrocketed with the disappearance of many large predators. Hunting is now considered a necessity only for these specific species that are over populating an area. Without the removal of these plenteous species, inbreeding and mutations will occur creating problems with the species in the future. “An abiding theme in hunting literature is the healing, calming, insight-generating effects of hunter sojourns in natural settings. The hunter ideal is not violent abandon but calm reflection of the holistic circumstances of the irreversible decision to harvest the life of a game animal” (Source 3). Hunters argue that hunting is not solely murdering with no remorse; it is a pensive act. The hunting literature explains that hunters feel contrition from making a kill and claiming the life of an animal contradicting the stereotypical opinion that every hunter is a stone cold killer. Average hunters who hunt for deer and geese for example only help in maintaining overpopulated species in certain areas. Even though maintaining
Hunting is a tradition in America. Our ancestors hunted to survive. Today we don’t necessarily do it to survive but we do eat the meat and enjoy the hunt. It gives us time to bond with our friends and or family. Also, if the hunting industry was stopped a lot of people would lose a way to make a living. My mom’s best friend and her father own a 20,000 acre game ranch in Rock Springs, Texas. People go out there for every different hunting season. They come from all over the world and pay money for every animal they take off the property. White tail bucks cost the seasonal hunter $1,500; does are $1000. Exotic animals range in price and may be hunted year round.
Visiting a country for vacation tend to have a strong correlation with buying unique merchandise that the country has to offer, such as bags, clothes, shoes, etc. However, we tend to be unaware of the origin for those items. The clothes and bags that we bought might have come from animals that are endangered, or it could have been coming from animals that are now extinct; and unknowingly, we take parts in the big business of wildlife trading.
As hunting is no more a vital means for existence, its neighborhood in our general community is under study. While some need to keep up the time-regarded convention,
Bang! The adrenaline is flowing now! You see the biggest buck you have ever seen laying there on the ground. All the things you’ve worked for this whole past year has finally come together. Allowing you to make that kill of a lifetime. What I just described to you is exactly what happened to me November the 12th,2015, but to reach that amazing adventure there were many things I had to do to achieve my goal. With hunting, a lot of things play into factor such as the time of year to hunt/scouting, types of hunting, and also meal prep. All theses things are important to the hunt.
Animals are not harvested out of necessity for food, pelts, or medicine. Trophy hunts capitalize on the exploitation and slaughter of wild animals for consumer means. Hunters are often wealthy foreign tourists who do not understand the ecological ramifications of their actions. Thus, trophy hunting is consumer at its finest, satisfying the entertainment needs of wealthy tourists with little regard for wildlife and environmental integrity. Lin summarizes, “most people who argue in favor of hunting are not arguing in favor of trophy hunting–the practice of killing an animal simply to show off its head and pelt. Trophy hunting is, in fact, abhorred by the majority of the public” (Lin). Banning trophy hunting is not an attack on traditional hunting for meat or population control. Rather, trophy hunting is an unethical practice that is not governed by mainstream conservation principles. Many hunters view trophy hunting as a poor and unfair representation of hunting. The negative stigma attached to this outdated practice can impact the manner in which all hunting is viewed. Thus, banning trophy hunting is a point that both conservationist and traditional hunters can unite
From the perspective of economy, ecology, and environmental conservation, hunting is very important. Hunting is necessary to protect agriculture and the environment from animal pest or overpopulation. For example, wild boars tear up many farmers land causing many problems as well with the deer population growing eating away farmer’s resources. Also with the growth of white tail deer are damaging every landscape east of the Mississippi river. Unfortunately, the harm is very overlooked, and accepted as somehow “natural”. Over the last 30 years higher dear populations have made a more negative impact due to climate change. (“Is Hunting a Good Thing?”) Hunting was legalized in 1993 to help bring overabundant wild animal populations down. The legalization
So, deer season is over and you have settled in for the winter. A great time for lazing around watching football and maybe working a little overtime to keep the boss off your back when the turkeys are gobbling and the crappie are moving into shallow brush this spring. The coffee table is littered with Outdoor Life, Field & Stream and outdoor catalogs. Thoughts of the past season still fresh in your mind, you are content, or are you.
Hunting helps cull back animals that are overpopulating local areas or animals are old and need culled out of the herd, but

In today's society, hunters need to acquire a license in order to legally hunt a deer or other big game animal. This happens when the division of wildlife decides to let you hunt your desired animal. Before they can hand out tags, the state must first decide how many they can give out so they do not hurt the wildlife population if too many of a certain animal are killed. The Division of Wildlife keeps close watch of the population of herds of deer, elk, wolves, bear, and other big game animals. For anything that requires a tag to hunt, it is closely watch by the state to ensure the herds and thriving.
Hunting should be illegal because it’s dangerous and harmful. It’s also dangerous to baby animals and to the population of the animals. Do you think hunting should be illegal ? Do you think hunting is safe? We don’t! Many animals have become endangered because of the illegal hunting that has gone on. Hunting can hurt innocent animals and can also result in the shooting of a human or pet with a firearm . Drug abuse kills 200,000 people and more each year .
