Modern humans have inhabited this Earth for long periods of time and dwelled for much of it without causing much irrevocable harm to the environment. However, the widespread abuse, overexploitation, and pollution started affecting the environment negatively over the last few centuries. The environment is not only the undeveloped land, such as forests, oceans, deserts, etc. When we hear the term environment, maybe some of us may think of the times they have been at a local or national park, visited the beach, or took a trip to the mountains. It is true that each of these is an example of the environment, but also our home, school, work, car; even we are a part of the environment. I am motivated by the biblical verses that we find in John 3:1-17 (NIV) when Jesus washes His disciples’ feet to show His servant attitude to them. He serves them, as the lowliest slave would do, to reveal to them that even if He is the Son of God or God Himself in the flesh, He is willing to serve. He says that if they want to follow Him, they need to follow His path and be servants like Him. I want to be a servant as Jesus taught us because indeed, “the key to a servant leader’s heart is humility” (Kouzes & Posner, 2004, p. 104).
