Recommended: Role and task of women in the military

Women Serving on the Frontline Alongside Men Did you know that Deborah Gannett Samson was one of the first American women soldiers? Deborah was from Plymouth, Massachusetts and in 1782 she enlisted in the military under the name of her deceased brother, Robert Shurtleff Samson. This just tells us how greatly she wanted to fight for the freedom of her country and the civilians who wander the earth. Samson served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary war. During Deborah’s 17 month tenure, she was injured two times. In their article, “Why Can 't Women Serve at the Front?,” Seeker examines the different aspects of women serving on the front lines alongside men. This article also believes that women in this day and age should not be able to stand up for themselves and pursue whatever …show more content…

The first reason is that people will be very uncomfortable with the image of mothers coming home in body bags. Critics claim that this isn’t a big problem, since fathers are often brought home in body bags. However, I think that women do not have the mental power to survive the factors of the war. Some of them being the image of children getting bombed, roadside bombs exploding next to them, and similar factors. Another problem with women in the military is that their colleagues, men, will be there just to protect them, causing them to be distracted or fail missions. Likewise, when a man sees a woman in danger he feels it is his responsibility to protect her and make sure she makes it out safe. According to Info Please, if a woman and man are both injured, then the female will most likely get aid from the nurses rather than the men.
