What would you do if Google and the internet ceased to exist? Could you go about your daily life as normal? Would that research paper you need to finish become a hundred times harder now that you actually have to open a book to find the information you need? The internet has become one of the most depended on resource in today’s society and without it; many of our lives would suddenly become incredibly complex. With all the vast knowledge available at the student’s disposal, learning whatever they please has become simpler than ever. This in turn has a positive impact on the student’s learning experience and their behavior toward education as a whole because of the new ways kids are experiencing learning. For example, by replacing textbooks and loads of paper in the classroom and changing over to a digital platform with laptops or iPads, we are exposing children to an entire new world of information and creative ways to access whatever they need. According to 6th grade teacher Mr. Gudenius, “going paperless would benefit me greatly and the environment as well, if I asked my students if they prefer the digital to tree - based technology, everyone would say yes” (Gudenius 3). We have reached a point in time where the old school traditional textbook teaching is out of date. After all, the best way to remember something is to make it hands on and interactive and that is where the internet comes in. With this generation of children and adults alike, boring is out of the question. The internet is loaded with many methods and ways to engage the students in any particular lesson they are trying to learn in school. As teachers continue to teach the digital way, students are grasping the concept quicker and becoming more intelligent at a fast rate.
