The main objective of this chapter is to expatiate on the necessary methodology that are relevant to this proposed topic. It minutiae the research design adopted and furthermore demonstrate how a qualitative and quantitative methodology are preferred in this study. An attempt is made to make an overview and also provide insights into the various strategies adopted for a qualitative and quantitative research in the proposed study.

The Research Design: A Quantitative and Qualitative Approach
In the field of social sciences research, there are two distinctive contending ideologies: the quantitative (or positivist) approach where research inquiries are from the "outside" and the qualitative (or naturalist) approach where research inquiries are from the "inside" and are geared towards perfection (Ospina, 2004: 4). Quantitative research is of the assumption that data collected are done through figures and that what is being studied is independent of the researcher unless of course if the researcher choses to personally verify what was observed through the figures. Furthermore, Okeke and Ume (2004) were of the opinion that this premise was deep rooted in the 19th century philosophy, also known as positivism, where it explained that human society is governed by some natural laws and these laws will be more significant if they are understood in order to explain the problems that face the human society.
While the positivists focus on natural laws, the naturalists focus on the individual as a "social actor" (Corbetta, 2003). Ultimately, the area of qualitative research focus on "describing a specific group in detail and to explain the pattern that exist and certainly not to discover general laws of human behavior" (Schofield, 1993: quoted ...

...a. The teachers are the leaders that the children see, so it is important to bring them first and foremost as part of this research due to their active involvement in children learning outcomes and societal development. The involvement of school leaders is to further expatiate on the issue at hand; in order to find out any missing link between the teachers and the management of the schools generally. The samples will be selected using a non-probability sampling technique known as the purposive sampling technique. This is because participants are more familiar with the issue at hand and they are readily available.
The proposed sample size for this study is about 849 respondents. About 800 respondents will be administered questionnaires, 25 respondents for the in-depth interviews and three focus groups will be conducted consisting of 8 participants in each focus group.

A Qualitative Research Design Chart Essay

- A Qualitative Research Design Chart The role of the various research designs is to make certain that the proof acquired facilitates investigators in efficiently addressing the research problem they intend to study. Finding information pertinent to the research problem usually involves stipulating the nature of data needed to assess a hypothesis, to appraise a plan, or to precisely explain and judge the significance associated with a discernible observable fact. An accurately formed research design will discover the research problem clearly and validate its choice, chiefly concerning any other compelling optional qualitative designs that may well have been employed....   [tags: Qualitative research, Scientific method]

Types Of Qualitative And Qualitative Research Essay

- Types of Qualitative Methods When a qualitative approach seems to make the most sense, the task becomes one of selecting the qualitative method or methods to be used. A number of different ways of framing qualitative methods exist. Lee, Mitchell, and Sablynski (1999) use purposes (e.g., theory generation, theory elaboration, theory testing, or critical theory), research design (e.g., case study, ethnography, and in-depth interviews), and analytic data techniques (e.g., grounded theory approaches, pattern matching in case study research, and hermeneutic techniques as a way of categorizing types of qualitative research....   [tags: Qualitative research, Scientific method]

Qualitative Study On Qualitative Research Essay

- Qualitative Study Design Chart From a distinctive case study to an all-encompassing interview, the talent to analyze the nature of a phenomenon utilizing qualitative research designs is established upon in-depth analysis by the researcher (Bryman, 2006). Case studies, observations, interviews, and survey designs are the most frequently exploited approaches (Ukiwe, 2011). The objective of this research is to create a chart listing the various designs one may consider for a qualitative study along with the type of data collection....   [tags: Qualitative research, Scientific method]

Qualitative Research : Quantitative Research Essay

- Introduction Qualitative research as it is known today began during the period 1925-1934. As almost the antithesis of the more entrenched and accepted quantitative research, it has only been deemed acceptable and trustworthy in recent years. Qualitative research first gained respectability through the application of applied psychology in advertising and marketing, and is now almost universally accepted in academia. (Bailey, 2013) The questions before today’s researchers are how to apply qualitative research, and when to supplant it with either quantitative research or a mixture of the two....   [tags: Scientific method, Qualitative research]

Business / Management Journals Focused On The Principle Qualitative Research Methods

- Introduction - This paper provides a review of five articles from business/management journals focused on the principle qualitative research methods. For each article review a brief description, guided by Myers (2013), and a critique, guided Pratt (2009), is provided. Table 1 provides a summary of the five articles identifying the research method, data collection technique, data analysis approach and key. The narrative descriptive review of each article coupled with figure and tables to organize and visualize thoughts (Pratt, 2009) follows the summary table....   [tags: Scientific method, Qualitative research]

Research Design Qualitative, Quantitative, And Mixed Methods Approaches Essay

- In “Research design Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods approaches” by John W. Creswell has explained three different approaches to design research topics. According to the author to design any research topic you have to do first inquiries about the research topic. While doing this there is three important factor that one should keep in mind. The first is there any alternative claims on this topic, the second is which strategies to use to inquire and third is the methods that can be used....   [tags: Scientific method, Qualitative research, Research]
