What kind of relationship, as a teacher, do I want to have with my students? I ask myself this question every time I read a book about teacher-student relationship or when I am observing in the classroom I am going to be student teaching in next semester. Instead of thinking in a student perspective I have to go think in a teacher perspective. Section 3 helps me decide what kind of relationship I want to have with my students as the teacher. The first point was demonstrating personal interest in students. One detail that I will be focusing on is interacting with students as individuals. The second point was behaving equitably and responding affirmatively to questions. The detail I will be focusing on is affirmative reactions to incorrect responses. One way in which I can demonstrate personal interest in my students is by interacting with them as individuals. When I was in elementary school I enjoyed it when I had a conversation with my teacher about what I did over the weekend or how everything was going at home. I felt important and that the teacher really cared about me as a student. As a future teacher I want my students to feel the same as I did when I was younger. I want them to know and feel that they are important in my classroom. I can agree with the book that greeting each student at the door individually and by their name has more meaning than greeting everyone at once. I would find time in the day to have a chance to talk with students about what is going on in their lives.
