The Teacher’s Pyramid of Influence is a pyramid of three sections. The top section is Overt Attempts to Teach, the middle section is Interacting with Students, and the foundation of the pyramid is Modeling. Just about everything in life is built from a foundation, the beginning of something that is built upon to make something bigger and better. The foundation of a teacher teaching their students is called modeling. Modeling means to give an example, not just say anything, but do or show something. Modeling can be a positive thing or a negative thing. When a teacher talks about the importances of a particular action like looking both ways before crossing the street, the best way to help students understand is to model this action. I hope they feel they can come to me when they need help with not just a school problem, but a problem in their personal life or when they just need some to listen. I hope I can model the same teacher characteristics to my students as I felt she showed me. She was caring, warm, and very interested in her students’ total well-being. Mrs. Schuette was the teacher who made me want to become a teacher. She showed me how much of a difference I could make in my students’ lives. She also helped me find opportunities to start my teaching career by helping with the kids in the special education program in my high school. Letter did for me. I think relating the coursework to school and community events and finding a way to explain the topic related to something the student is really interested in will both make me a better teacher and my students feel I really care about them and teaching. I feel when coursework is relevant to a student’s life in school and out, making the coursework meaningful and important to students will just encourage the students more to learn and use materials that are being taught in the classroom. Ms. Letter helped me see that everyone learns differently. She also taught me that every topic can be broken down and related to something else in life. I have used this idea in coaching for my athletes. Taking topics we cover in practice and showing the athletes where else the topic can apply in
