My Career/Professional Goals In Public Health

As the semester comes to conclusion, I now have clear picture on the direction I want to head after completing my master’s in public health. However, the picture isn’t entirely clear. It seems that the short-term goals are unclouded unlike the long-term goals. Let me elaborate – I know what I am going to accomplish in 5-years, 10-years, and maybe 15-years. However, it’s still unclear how broad I would like to use my public health degrees. After completing the Foundation in Public Health course I was able to gain a deeper understanding for the field of public health, I determined the concentration for the master’s program, and was able to network. These three take-away themes will support my future career/professional goals. As the course came to the conclusion I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the public health field and what is expect out of a public health practitioner. The PHIT Team Presentation gave the glimpse to us as students on what were some of the matters we would be unraveling and teaching to our peers, and it gave us the opportunity to work with different personalities. By networking with my fellow classmates/colleagues I was able to determine my concentration for the master’s program. By talking with them I was take their advice and their experiences to determine the path I want to take. The guest speakers inspired me towards that path – a couple of the speakers were able to speak at a personal level and speak towards the issues that are occurring with our healthcare management system. One of the guest speakers spoke about the health disparities and the lack of resources the system provides to those affect by these health disparities.
