Writing is something that I wasn’t really into. I would rather express myself through art rather then words. I think this is because I never knew where to begin when I was giving a writing assignment. During the journey to complete my first semester of English 101 came along may challenges that I had to face, but ended up over coming them. Within this class I was able to benefit from a variety of new things as well as refreshing my memory on things that I already knew. I have learned different writing techniques, different learning styles, and I learned how to find and properly use different sources. I would get so frustrated when writing one because whenever I would ask Dr. Edwards if my thesis was fine I would get I no because I was always to broad. I think I would write an average of about five different thesis until I wrote decent one. For both my compare and contrast essay and my argument essay I had to first think about what a thesis needed because I didn’t want to go through the struggle of writing many different ineffective thesis as I did in previous essays. A thesis statement tells the reader what to expect from the rest of your paper. So with keeping that in my mind I would go back and look at my outline and pick out the topic and the main points of what each paragraph would be about. For my compare and contrast essay I wrote about a girls coming of age. My main points were "the significance of the ceremony celebration, the clothing that is worn by the girl and friends and family that were invited" as stated in my thesis. For my argument essay I wrote about banning animal testing of beauty products. For this essay my main points as stated in my thesis were "it violates animal 's rights, it is cruel and it is proven to be completely unnecessary, unreliable and unethical". As I look back to the beginning of this semester to now, I feel as though I really got the hang of writing a perfectly developed thesis
