How To Write an Essay

The most common essay pattern is five-paragraph essay, beginning with introduction that initiate the single main idea, three paragraphs that each contains one supporting reason for the main idea and the conclusion. However, some people still wonder that why they cannot make successful and fascinating essays. Five-paragraph essay does not guarantee full score in SAT and TOEFL writing test. Interesting essay never came from putting words into template such as the five-paragraph pattern. Writing an essay needs more profound attempts and arts of writer.

This essay will be divided into 4 parts including the meaning of the essay, the structure of the essay, the SOAPS analysis, the purpose of the writers and tips for writing an essay.

Essay, derived from the French word Essais which means attempt, is the piece of writing that was created to solve the problem of finishing difficulties in other types of writing. Essay is a short piece of writing that contains only one main idea supported by experience, viewpoints and examples.

However, the undeniable truth is that essay contains three parts including introduction, body paragraph(s) and conclusion. The introduction, which usually contained grabbing sentences, summary and quotations, has a great impact in grabbing reader’s attention. The way we write well-developed introduction can be considered a reverse pyramidal diagram. Broader idea comes first, following by deeper thoughts and the deepest one usually is the last sharp sentence that contain the “thesis”. Thesis is a strong statement that tells readers what will they going to read next.

This notion can be remembered as “double your explanation length for each quotation” that means writer should spend double amount of quotation describing it. An essay writer should aware that they have to communicate with readers so it is ordinary that readers cannot understand the whole idea of the essay because of communication complications.

Essay is a piece of art that everybody can create. Every rule given here is not important than genuine experiences. No template. No pattern. Writing an essay needs just attempts to pass the ideas from our brain to readers’ minds. Writing an essay helps us develop our ideas. Essays contain everything of humankind. Essays never died from this world.
