Many suffer from physical and mental obstacles that others are unaware of. Going through obstacles is part of life. Everyone has their own story of how they arrived to where they are in life. These accounts are unique to each and every individual. The important factor to remember is that these are personal experiences. What outside viewers perceive, as not a “great” accomplishment should not matter to the individual who struggled to achieve their goal, because no one, except that person, understands what it took to attain it. Others do not know your story and the obstacles you have overcome to get where you are now. There are a couple of hardships in my life that I have surpassed, and when I reminisce upon them I find great satisfaction in knowing I’ve overcome them. My first account is my health, getting to a healthier me and finding a greater appreciation for natural foods. Growing up, I was active and participated in several sports. I have always been on the larger side. When I was young I felt I was invincible. I ate and drank foods that tasted satisfying at the moment without realizing the consequences it would have on me in the future. It is very easy to harm someone if you’re not careful and focused on the task. When I watched the instructor demonstrate and successfully perform phlebotomy on a student, I was still unsure about my skills. Following the demonstration it was my turn to perform this task. I took a deep breath, and followed the proper procedures and techniques and went for the draw. It was a victory seeing the blood flowing through the vacutainer. At that moment my anxiety subsided, I felt in control and that I accomplished a new skill. My thoughts became clear as the concerns I once had about my fear of needles and blood
