Personal Statement: A Career As A Registered Nurse

My journey continues, to serve, to educate, to lead, to support, and above all to recognise when more expertise is needed to ensure the optimum patient outcome. 2008 remains very symbolic for me, since it was the year i started serving as a Registered Nurse (BSN) at the age of 22. Each day seemed far more interesting than the previous one, as i used the different medical and scientific theories to provide the best care for my patients. I looked forward to discussing my patients conditions with the Doctors, i never shied away from doing my own research and asking questions regarding conditions and care plans. Within 6months of working as a staff Nurse, i was made Charge Nurse which came with great responsibilities. Besides providing great care to my patients, i was also responsible for assigning patients to Nurses. Oh boy, was this a great experience!. Managing other human beings was a challenging task, but i quickly learned, to succed, i had to team up with my staff and lead. I was quick to assit with inserting peripheral IV lines which earned me the name "IV Queen", inserting foley catheter, assisting my collegues with admissions and discharges as necessay with our new computerized system which most of my coworkers had a difficult time maneouvering. I am privilleged to be in the united states of America where every body has access to the Emergency department even though it was not designed to serve as a Primary means to obtain healthcare services. I was born and raised in Cameroon where as a teenager i volunteered during the summer at Dr Oben 's Clinic.
