Participative leadership As we may all know by now leadership style plays a key role in the productivity and overall effectiveness of an organization. There are several different types of leadership styles and often times some leader’s poses more than just one style of leadership. Although there isn’t a leadership style known to be better than the other it is important for you to determine what style of leader you are in order to use you qualities to the best of your abilities and succeeded as a leader. After researching several types of leadership styles and completing different self-assessments I came to the conclusion that the leadership style that best fits me is participative leadership.

Participative leaders take into account constructive criticism, the ideas of others and are trustworthy. The traits of a participative leader help me establish a rapport with people that I will work with professionally. I would say that I am both relationship-oriented and task oriented. I think that it is important to develop a working relationship with the people you work with and the people you work for. By establishing a relationship, I will be able to empower people to be constructive members of society by finding their own niche. I am able to complete the task at hand--which would be to rehabilitate young offenders by fostering relationships with community leaders and organizations that have similar ideals as well. As a probation officer, I will work with others that come in contact with the young adults I work with. I will take into account their experiences with the young adults to work to find a way to better their situations and lead them towards better life choices. I hope to change the lives of people in a positive
