How Is Batman An Archetypal Hero?

“It is not who I am underneath, but what I do defines me”. Bruce Wayne from one of the many screenwriting’s of Batman is an archetypal hero because his story follows the hero’s journey. Bruce Wayne begins just as every other archetypal hero.
Bruce lives an ordinary life until his parents got shot by a criminal. Sadly, Bruce saw his parents were shot and slowly sees his parents die in front of him. Bruce lives a sorrowful childhood. He still has guilt from his parent’s death, that it triggers him. His goal in life is to get revenge. Also what takes control of Bruce’s life is his fears which are bats and the darkness. This is what he was seeking from the beginning, when he was without direction bent on revenge. When Rachel slapped him for his lack of behavior, that is when he hit rock bottom. Batman goes back out to Gotham city one last time to stop the runaway train which has been hijacked by his former mentor Ducard. This is the final test, the climax. After a long battle of hand to hand combat exhibit everything he has learned. Batman is basically pinned to the ground; his neck is grasp tight by Ra’s Al Ghul’s iron grip. When Ra’s Al Ghul’s stares into Batman dying eyes and asks if he is afraid. Batman stops coping like if he accepts the death. He replies, yes but not of you. In a final twist Batman utilize his cape and flies out of the back of the train on a rip cord, just before the train blows up into flames. Batman has resurrected and survived death once again, and he earns his title as a true hero, the savior of Gotham. He survived all the ordeals and living through death, he returns to Gotham with the elixir of hope and change. Bruce Wayne does not only bring a powerful change for himself but he brings a powerful change of the hearts and minds of all Gotham citizens. The citizens of Gotham now have faith to fight corruption, and for once, have a high rate to actually win. Knowing they have a might ally with them. Batman Begins closes in unprejudiced.
