A spinal cord injury is caused by trauma to the spinal cord that results in complete or incomplete paralysis. A complete spinal cord injury is when the spinal cord is completely severed causing a person to never be able to walk again. An incomplete spinal cord injury is when the spinal cord is still intact, but has trauma to an area from a foreign object or bone compressing against the cord without transecting it. Incomplete spinal cord injury victims have a little hope to be able to walk again. The effect a spinal cord injury has on a person depends on the level of injury of the spine, which are the cervical, thoratic, and lumbar spine level.
An injury to the cervical spine is the most severe and worst one of the three. This is because a cervical spinal injury results in paralysis from the neck on down disabling a person to move all four limbs, this is also called quadriplegia. It is impossible for a quadriplegic to survive on his own and he will always depend on a care giver 100 percent for bathing, grooming, eating, and other necessary physical activities. Quadriplegia`s also ha...
The anatomy of the knee contains the femur, tibia and the patella. There are four main ligaments within the knee. Those ligaments are called medial collateral (mcl), lateral collateral (lcl), anterior cruciate (acl) and posterior cruciate (pcl). The anterior cruciate ligament (acl) is in the middle of the knee and prevents the shin from sliding. An anterior cruciate ligament tear is the most common harmed ligament, undergoing an estimate of 200,000 happenings yearly. Typically individuals who play sports such as football, basketball, skiing or soccer experience this injury.

A persons Spinal Cord is the cord of nervous tissue which extends from the brain and goes all the way down their back in the vertebral canal. It gives off pairs of spinal nerves and carries impulse to and from the brain, it also serves as the centre for initiating and coordination of many reflects acts. Without the spinal cord a person’s body would not be able to maintain its composure and would cave in on its self. An injury to the spinal cord can be catastrophic to the person, many injuries to the spinal cord result in quadriplegia and/or paraplegia and in some cases death. A Spinal Cord Injury can be classed as a complete spinal cord injury (meaning all functions below the injured area are lost even if the
Spinal Stenosis is a term commonly used to describe a narrowing of the spinal canal. This problem is much more common in people over the age of 60. However, it can occur in younger people who have abnormally small spine canals as a type of birth defect. The problem usually causes back pain and leg pain that comes and goes with activities such as walking. The purpose of this information is to help you understand: the anatomy of the spine related to spinal stenosis the signs and symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis, how the condition is diagnosed, and the treatments available for the condition.

Spinal fusion stabilizes the spinal vertebra by fusing the disk spaces between the vertebra. The purpose of Lumbar fusion surgery is designed to help create solid bone between the adjoining vertebra. Classically Autograft bone has been used for fusion. This case study demonstrates the successful use of a synthetic bone graft called Signafuse. Signafuse is a moldable bone graft comprising a proprietary combination of patented bioactive glass particles and biphasic mineral granules suspended in a patented resorbable polymer carrier.
There are many other instances of disabilities or diseases that can cause disadvantages in life. Goering lists deafness and color-blindness, but I think that paralysis should also be included in thi...

The effects include paralysis of a limb or one side of the body and disturbances of speech and vision. The nature and extent of damage depends on the size and location of the affected blood vessels. The main causes are cerebral infarction (approx. 85%) and spontaneous intracranial haemorrhage (15%) (Waugh & Grant, 2010).
The current patient may be experiencing a range of traumatic injuries after his accident, the injuries that the paramedic will focus on are those that are most life threatening. These injuries include: a possible tension pneumothroax or a haemothorax, hypovolemic shock, a mild or stable pelvic fracture and tibia fibula fracture.
