Individual versus organisational innovation
When attempting to improve creativity in business, there are two approaches which may be taken, either individually or together: INDIVIDUAL CREATIVITY and ORGANISATIONAL CREATIVITY.
Individual creativity is, of course, the creativity of the individual. Everyone has what I call a creative comfort level which is based on their natural creativity quotient, their willingness to risk new ideas and their personality. People can be trained to think more creatively and to apply creative thinking strategies to various activities. However, you cannot push someone far beyond her creative comfort level without causing stress. And stress is likely to lead to reduced creativity, unhappiness with the company and other problems.
Likewise, naturally creative people forced to work in an organisation that inhibits creativity will also become stressed. Often, creativity phase plays critical role in providing good opportunity to familiarize the client with the team work. Moreover, they share potential ideas and proposals to reduce cost; without affecting quality or functionality negatively. Accordingly, there will be a base of ranked and classified ideas and views.
The need for college graduates with creativity skills is “changing how the workplace” is structured or managed and “what people do.” These “changes” are the “center” of interpreting the basis for ideas. The future of the company depends on “how well it acquires, interprets, and acts” on the given “information.” “Today the spread of information technologies is bringing about a sea of change in the business” environment (Goleman and Kaufman par 43). “Since creative problem-solving requires the psychological commitment of the whole person, the modern workplace must undergo vital changes” (Goleman and Kaufman 46). Creativity has been a major influence when dealing with these changes brought on by the innovative technologies and that is why we should have creativity studies to guide the transition. Also, for students to have these skills before they enter the workforce will benefit them on so many levels. What exactly is creativity? To be creative is to understand and connect the small details of our experiences, both good and bad (creative something). Creativity involves a person using his or her original ideas to create something. Artists such as poets, writers, painters, designers, and more use creativity on a regular basis. They use creativity to come up with new ideas and create original works of art. A poet would use his or her creative abilities to write and produce a poem just like a painter would use creativity to paint a painting.
Innovation has become a critical element for a business to be successful. More emphasis is placed on creativity as it is the core that drives innovation within a company. Businesses must provide a conducive work environment to produce and grow a creativity amongst its employees. We will discuss the five critical component to a creative work environment which include challenging work, organization encouragement, supervisor encouragement, work group encouragement, lack of organization impediments and freedom.
Anyone who takes the time to learn, and especially to acquire diverse knowledge, can express great creativity. As said by Vern Burkhardt, “The mythical views that we have about creativity and genius are almost impossible to reconcile with the scientific method” (Burkhardt). Depending on different circumstances people learn to express their creativity openly while other people close themselves and believe they do not have creativity. Creativity is a natural talent that every single human has. Creativity can be used to solve a complex problem in a different manner or just to find innovative ways to have fun.
