How to Lose Weight with a Busy Schedule (working title)
As a perpetually busy person, I never set aside time to lose weight.
While attending high school full time, I worked part time and attended musical rehearsals after school. I added to my busy schedule by squeezing in workouts after I finished my shifts at Subway.
And I lost weight.
While enrolled in the maximum college credits, I attended play rehearsals, worked full time and occasionally worked out in the morning.
I continued to lose weight.
After studying abroad, I traveled to three countries—the United States, Morocco and Spain—in 4 weeks. In those 4 weeks, I traveled to eight cities: Rabat, Marrakesh, Tangier, Madrid, Toledo, Valencia, Barcelona and Minneapolis.

When we want to lose weight, we tend to have an all-or-nothing mentality. Like you either go on a 1,000-calorie diet of salad and carrots or you eat 5 pieces of chocolate cake. It’s hard to find a happy medium.
But that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. In fact, small changes to your diet can make a huge impact.
I first started to lose weight by making small changes to my Subway sandwiches, i.e. fast food. I ate everything when I started working at Subway. I didn’t care about how healthy it was. I wanted to try it all since I got a free sub whenever I worked. Chicken-Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, Philly Cheesesteak—I ate it all.
But then I started to think about how healthy Subway was. Subway marketed itself as healthy. But was it? I concluded that though some sandwiches could be healthier, it wasn’t healthy I decided to change my ways.
I started out by switching from the white breads to the brown breads. I also stayed away from the premium subs that packed on the meat.
Next I looked to my sauces. Instead of chipotle southwest, I used red wine vinegar, mustard and the sweet onion sauce. I opted for avocado rather than
Fast food, while a quick alternative to cooking, has always been known to be less healthy than traditional preparations, but the extent of its health benefits or detriments was not known until a lawsuit came out which inspired documentarian Morgan Spurlock to engage in a 30 day experiment. The resultant documentary specifically targeted McDonald’s, the largest fast food chain in the world, which also happens to be a major recipient of lawsuits linking obesity and their food. Spurlock endeavored to spend a thirty day period eating nothing but food that came from the golden arches, with the rules that he would supersize only when asked, and every time he was asked, and that he would have everything from the menu at least once. In the 2004 film Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock explores the concept that McDonald’s contributes to the nation’s obesity problem through the utilization of statistics and scientific evidence as a logical appeal, comedy and repulsive qualities as an emotional appeal, and s...
While growing up we learn that the best way to stay healthy and look great is through proper dieting and regular exercise. As we get older and feel the pressure of obtaining perfect looks, the sensationalism of fad dieting can seem like a dream come true. With the desire of a tiny waist plaguing America, it can be difficult to decide between healthy dieting an exercise, or extreme fad diets promising fast results. When choosing which method will work best for you can be stressful, it is important to think about what is really best for your body. Each form of dieting has different long term results, can affect your overall health, and can have an effect on the rest of your appearance.
Subway, one of the present leaders in the fast food industry was set up in 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut by Fred DeLuca. A family friend of him suggested this idea to help him pay for his education to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. Dr. Peter Buck, one of Fred’s friends agreed to be his partner with a loan of $1,000. There was a huge growth in the business relationship that changed the landscape of the fast food industry.
In 2010 the center for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) calculated that as much as 34.9 % of adults in the United States are Obese (Obesity). At this rate it is estimated that at least 3/4 of adults in the United States will be obese or overweight by the year 2020(Obesity). The United States has made great efforts to reduce this percentage such as exercise programs and promoting healthy eating (Published). However, with 60% of our meals consisting of added sugar and processed and genetically modified food, it is quite hard to find the ideal diet in order to lose weight and be healthy (Trying). Many of these diets include Vegan diets, Vegetarian diets, low carb diets and the Atkins diet. However, these diets tend to be impractical and
“…So many people want to know about diets because so many people are going to try them, but they don’t work … some weight will be lost temporarily.” Harvey Diamond, author, was speaking. “But let me ask you something – do you want to be healthy temporarily? No. But you want to lose weight temporarily. They’re – They have failures built right into them.”
Those who wish to lose weight seem to have a handful of options when it comes to the diet they can try. Each diet has a particular lifestyle it is trying to promote and in order to get the best results one must adhere to it as religiously as possible.

Face it, we have all heard the phrase,"You are what you eat" countless times in your life, but what does that truly mean. Every few months or years, millions go into trying new diets and diet pills but fail to understand why they cannot continue to eat healthy after their first few days on their new diet. Well, 1) the word "DIE" is in diet 2) no matter where you look you 're going to find delicious food ads and junk food and 3) you don 't have support.
So you gained a few unwanted pounds, or you need to fit into a new dress or shirt, and you don’t have the time to hit the gym and follow a strict meal and fitness plan? Weight gain happens when you eat over 3,500 calories in any amount of time, however, exercise can burn calories off, and you will be in control of your weight. You remember that one magazine on health, or the Google searches you have done on some quick and easy diets, the question is, will they work? And if so, will you gain more weight again as soon as you break off the diet? Models, dancers, celebrities, and everyday people go through this same struggle. The only difference is that some get the desired results, while others don’t due to their daily routines and their body. Weight loss commercials on TV all claim to work, and even show transformation pictures. Dieting, however, will help you temporarily lose weight.

This encourages unhealthy eating habits as many people result to restricting their intake of foods that have essential nutrients. In fact, the diet programs are designed to take advantage of the willingness of people to attempt anything to lose weight or feel and look
First semester of college, I was living in the dorms called Eaton, which is located next to a dining center and a “fast food” place called Clyde’s. For me, it was very easy to walk a half of a mile down the sidewalk to get something fast to eat. What I didn’t realize was how bad their food is for you and how often I made an appearance there. It wasn’t until winter break when I came home for a couple weeks and started to get back to my old ways of eating when my mom would prepare every meal, which would include some type of meat, potatoes, and fruits and vegetables. I never noticed how bad I was eating until I was home and started eating more responsibly. Luckily I moved to a different dorm where
Many people struggle with their weight. Those who are on the heavy side oftent find it difficult to perform their daily tasks. Even walking for several minutes becomes a tiring activity for them on many occasions. Others can only imagine the physical effects of more intensive activities on people who are, frankly speaking, fat. John is one of those individuals who are on the heavy side. His sedentary life and his habit of eating more than his daily nutritional needs have led him to gain weight year after year. Now, John wants to turn things around. His problem is how he can lose weight without completely sacrificing his passion for food. In other words, John wants to decrease his body fat while still being able to enjoy his meals. For the
The first strategy that I can use in order to limit the amount of trans fats, processed sugar, and cheese that I eat is to cut back the less nutritious foods that are found around my apartment. Now, throwing out every item of unhealthy food isn’t the way to go because, lets face it, we all need to splurge sometimes. On the contrary, I can cut my options back. By doing this, it will help to limit the temptations that I have in my everyday life. Another strategy that I can use is to control my portion sizes. My version of portioning has always been the method of putting more of the things that taste better and less of the things that don’t taste as good on my plate. I need to start balancing out my plate by their nutritious values instead of their “yummy” value. Don’t get me wrong, nutritious foods are yummy too, but they aren’t the same type of yummy. Planning what I am going to eat ahead of time is another way to stick to my goal. This will make it easier to stick to a more nutritious diet. There are so many new substitutions in cooking now. Trying new things has never been one of my strong suits, in fact, it kind of scares me, but by broadening my options and trying these substitutions it will create a healthier way to enjoy some of my favorite foods. The options to eating healthier are endless, but these are just a few of the possible strategies that I may use in order to complete to my goal and
