The holders of degrees in hospitality management think of themselves as professionals entering the profession of hospitality management. Professions require specialized knowledge and skills, continuing education within the profession, and must be good for the community and society. While professionals may receive large salaries, for an endeavor to be a “profession” it must have goals beyond high pay and be concerned with the long-term good of the company and also the community the company does business in (Jaszay & Dunk, 2006). While improvements in corporate citizenship result in strong financial performance, methods to measure the effects of CSR are still in the early stages of development (Roberts,
My suggestion for becoming even better is to market worldwide. Switzerland is considered the best place to study hospitality management in a general world’s vision. However, I have to disagree. I had the opportunity to study over there for a year, and the school was really good, but Rosen is just as good. Switzerland does not have anything besides a great school. Orlando has Rosen, Disney, Universal, and so many other things to do. If Rosen College markets how good the school is, and how amazing is to study/live in Orlando, we can modify the idea that Switzerland is the best place to study hospitality management. I changed my mind, and I would never trade Rosen College for any other hospitality

Lindsay Alanson is a 15-year experienced professional that has moved up the hospitality ranks through her hard work and effective management style. One of the best programs developed by Lindsay in the past has been an initiative to increase motivation for the lower paid employees. Lindsay has now been recruited by Grand Chancellor Resort to take on the challenge of lowering the employees’ 20% retention rate as the quick turnover of employees is costing the resort an excess amount of money. Not only would the resort like to cut the cost of the hiring process but also maintain the reputation of best places to work as they were finalist in the best places to work awards in 2006.
Would you like a job with good pay, that gives you the chance to have free meals, a good retirement plan and health insurance, paid holidays, the possible chance to share in the profits of the company you work for with some positions, and the chance for career advancement and development? If you use a hospitality and tourism degree to become a restaurant manager you could have all these things, as well as become involved in the marketing of your business, high quality food preparation, managing, hiring and firing staff members, and with some jobs in some locations, the chance top interact with celebrities and members of the media to promote your restaurant.
The well-being of staff members, colleagues and guest should always come first to a leader. Respect is the key in maintaining these relationships, leaders are able to sharpen their “people skills” when they open a dialog that makes it clear on what is their expectations. A person holding a leadership position should have a clear vision on how to communicate effectively, or else they will lead the team to an unfortunate future. Great hospitality leaders have learned to be good team players because that is how they set examples, they treat others in a Manner that they would want to be treated. In the hospitality industry, leaders can build or break down what was built
“My learning experience, things I can achieve, the decisions I make, the people I meet and befriend and the mistakes I make tells me who I am now and who I will become.” As a child, this was a belief that my parents taught me and, so I grew up with it and became very devoted to follow it. My parents always said to me “Learn all you can.” They also taught me that the decisions I make will help me to build my own destination, and the way I treat others will say the person I am. Until this day, I continue to believe, apply and follow that belief. Today, Hospitality Management is my number one career choice I have chosen to work for the rest of my life. In many different ways, Hospitality Management reflects my third, fourth and fifth of
In this life most of the people have career goals; my career goal is to manage a hotel in Cancun, Mexico. To become a successful hotel manager, I need more than just a good knowledge of the hotel industry. For example, a good manager should develop excellent managing, time management, most have to have research skills, and good social skills. My view of the hospitality literature was that of a navigator. The resort’s training and management development literature saw employee turnover as a problem, with potential of a negative impact within the local hospitality industry. I would also define the resorts employee turnover as continual and is something that must be faced, head-on. Managers in this industry can follow the recommendations within the literature. The Hotel industry has become very important in the past years due to immense traveling and growth of international business. The Hotel industry not only plays an important role in the life of people but as well as the economy of the country. I spent an hour of my day relaxing in the lobby at the Fontainebleau resort in Miami, while on vacation with my family visiting from out of state. It was my first time staying at the resort so I was eager to check it out, after seeing such great reviews on Yelp and hearing great things from friends who have been there in the past. The employees working at the resort were very welcoming, professional and willing to go above and beyond to help their guests. The check-in process was very quick due to having
