Happiness varies from age to age. The most innocent form of happiness is found in children. They become happy about playing outdoors and spending time with their family. Happiness seems to change as people gradually age. Teenagers are typically happy from spending time with friends and being involved with their school. Adults are happy from relaxing. They have been active their whole life, so now, they enjoy their free time. All in all, though, true happiness is the inability to stop smiling. There are two degrees of happiness: being satisfied and being truly happy. Being satisfied is not feeling upset, but it also is not having the inability to stop smiling. Cynthia Belmore, the author of, “17 Ways To Shed Negativity And Achieve Happiness”, states that the first step is to get to know yourself. I, on the other hand, believe it is important to know who you are, but not required for happiness, that is more of a self-satisfaction feeling. I have not had the opportunity to fully grasp who I am. Generally speaking, I know my interests and most of my skills, but I have not completely realized who I am, which is okay. Happiness is an emotion I am familiar with, despite the fact that I have not completely realized of my identity. The main reason I experience happiness is because of number 10 of Belmore’s list: “Accept your feelings.” No one is going to, realistically, be happy all the time. You have to accept your feelings of regret or disappointment. I would like to stress that accepting feelings of sadness and anger is not okay. Those feelings should be dealt with and resolved. Regret and disappointment, however, are typically emotions one has to let go. Holding grudges will not lead to happiness. It will inevitably lead to feelings of sadness and greed. The article, “10 Simple Ways To Achieve True Happiness,” mentions that you should know your worth and express gratitude (Lowthert).
