Human development in the exercise and fitness industry has transformed a lot from being very the mid 1940’s to now being one of the largest, most studied, and sought after aspects of a humans life. Many people look to exercise to get healthy and change their body both physically and mentally. Specifically the desire to change their body composition, or otherwise known as how much muscular lean tissue and fat someone has (Zanker, Cathy, and Louise) because it is so heavily scrutinized and evaluated against social norms (O’Donnell). Exercise to improve body composition can be done in two forms such as anaerobic and aerobic types exercise. In order to improve body composition, anaerobic exercise's effects are superior to aerobic exercise because …show more content…

Anaerobic exercise means “without oxygen” as the body generates so much energy that the bloodstream cannot supply enough oxygen to the muscles and run on lactic acid (Atkins). This can be noticed by someone getting the “burning feeling” in the muscle. Where aerobic exercise is exercise done at a relatively low intensity for a longer duration and has oxygen present to be supplied in the bloodstream and also places less impact on the whole body “with oxygen”(Sisk and Atkins).Aerobic exercise’s effects won’t build muscle nor make you stronger . Weightlifting is typically an anaerobic form of exercise (Atkins) in it’s various platforms. Weightlifting can be seen in many forms such as Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and bodybuilding style training styles (Frey and Cataldo). Building muscle is a complicated process by the body that requires a lot of change by all the systematic processes off the body. Those processes get altered constantly as a person may lift weights by building muscle and making it harder for the body to adapt. The body can adapt to the easier aerobic exercise, where the body has to constantly change put muscle on and train every bodily system for the change making it far less adaptable (Newton). The last effect building muscle has on the body is building strength, as muscle develops, typically strength comes a long with it (Frey and Cataldo).Overall building muscle, an anaerobic activity, is superior to the easily adaptable slow aerobic exercise in regards to body
