I chose “You Get What You Give,” by New Radicals, Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too (1998), as my musical identity. I would consider myself somewhat of a musical enthusiast. I’ve listened and put to meaning hundreds of thousands of songs in my lifetime. With those countless hours listening to music, I believe “You Get What You Give,” by New Radicals, best describes my sacred beliefs, core values, and activities. Everyone gradually matures with a developing set of sacred beliefs. Some of the many sacred beliefs I carry are, living my life for the lord, never self-indulge myself, trusting myself in the lord’s name, and always trying to enjoy my surroundings. Not all of my sacred beliefs are expressed in my identity song, but my belief in refusal of self-indulgent activities, is sung very clearly. The lyrics “The bad rich, Gods flying in for your trial,” elucidates, gluttonous self-indulging people will be punished. Some of the various core values I hold are, forgiveness, honesty, and giving a situation my all. As Edward de Bono once said, “Effectiveness without values is a tool without a purpose.” As Edward de Bono and I both believe, core values are a tool everyone should have and use. The song “You Get What You give,” sings, “You’ve got a reason to live, can’t forget you only get what you give.” These lyrics translate to the meaning of, don’t give up, you have a reason to try, but you only will receive success in return for your effort. These song lyrics sing about my third core value of, giving a situation my all. I’ve had a great deal of surrounding help to form my core values.
