The Life of William Shakespeare William Shakespeare is an English poet, he wrote approximately 39 plays and 154 poems ("Admin."). Shakespeare is a great influence on people's lives today. Without him, people wouldn't know many English words or names. In his plays, he came up with a lot of names; like Jessica from "The Merchant of Venice" ("10 Ways Shakespeare"). He is viewed as "the greatest writer in the English language" ("en.wikipedia.org"). It's been over 400 years since Shakespeare had passed away ("Admin."). William Shakespeare's plays focused mostly on historical events ("William Shakespeare"). His nickname was "Bard of Avon" ("en.wikipedia.org"). This essay will include Shakespeare's early life, works and writing, and his legacy. Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England ("en.wikipedia.org"). He was "baptized" on April 26, 1564, so scholars believe he was born three days before. Scholars are unsure of his birthday but it is most likely to be April 23, 1564 ("William Shakespeare"). William Shakespeare wrote with great passion. He was able to make horrendous scenes seem so stylish and elegant ("Shakespeare's Lasting Legacy"). William Shakespeare was born on 26 April 1564 (died on 23 April 1616), in Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. Shakespeare was a poet, playwright and actor and has written about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and two long narrative poems. Shakespeare wrote many successful plays such as, Julius Caesar, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet was written in the mid-1590s in London and even today it is considered to be one of the greatest plays ever written. It is a play based on a long dispute between two families, the Montague’s and the Capulet’s, and takes place in the cities of Verona and Mantua, Italy, over the course of four short days.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-on-Avon in Warwickshire located in the heart of England on April 23 or 24, 1564. His mother, Mary Arden grew up in a much more prosperous environment than the Shakespeares. His father John, and Mary Arden were married in 1557. John Shakespeare was a wool dealer and glove maker, who became a prominent citizen and well-respected in the community. Eventually, John held a position in the public office. (Bender 13). Subsequently, John Shakespeare experienced financial problems and lost his wealth and governing positions. This, of course, had a big effect on the whole family. William was the third of eight children. The older siblings were sistets Joan, born in 1558 and Margaret in 1562. Both of William's older sisters died very young. (Bender 14). The other dive children were Gilbert born in 1566, a second Joan 1569, Richard 1573, Edmund 1580, and Anne 1580 who died at age eight. (Bender 14).

It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become.” This is entirely true of Shakespeare. William Shakespeare was a playwright, poet, and actor who wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets in the late 1500’s to early 1600’s. He’s often regarded as the greatest writer in the English language for many reasons.
He inspires many globally around the world. “The emotional effect the play had on its audience was clear during the performance, many had their eyes filled with tears and it showed how outside forces can shake conflict and divide groups of people and reflect the head of unity.” This quote just goes to show how a single play written by Shakespeare can change people. It changed people's perspectives on how to act towards people and what to say. This just adds onto how Shakespeare is still relevant and how he should still be in 9th grade criteria. “We read Shakespeare because it expands upon and improves the readers writing ability, we may not use the same language as one playwright but it helps us achieve greater language techniques.” This quote describes how Shakespeare's way of writing is brilliant and how it can improve or knowledge. Among his many plays is the notable, Twelfth Night, a romantic comedy, placed in a festive atmosphere in which three couples are brought together happily.

He used humor to create the laughter from his audiences. He wrote many works with humor called comedies. His comedies transformed into different type of comedies. Another one of Shakespeare’s techniques is the use of irony. He uses dramatic irony, situational irony, and verbal irony. Irony plays a very large role throughout all of his works along with comedy. He has contributed so much to the English language and literature. William Shakespeare uses everything from new words to new techniques. He created many new words and phrases. Now the English language can always thank the one and only great William Shakespeare for all that he has done for the English language throughout all his works.

Not only did Shakespeare create some of the most admired plays in literature, he also transformed theatre by expanding expectations through characterisation, plot, action, language, and genre. Over 1000 words and phrases that he coined as part of his plays and prose are now in common use across the globe. He changed nouns into verbs, verbs into adjectives, added on previously unheard-of prefixes and suffixes and in some cases made words out of nothing. Even culturally sensitive words such as ‘ode’ (The ANZACS) and scientific jargon (‘epileptic’) are in fact products of Shakespeare. Bernard Levin probably summed this up best when he wrote: “If you cannot understand my argument, and declare "It's Greek to me", you are quoting Shakespeare; if you claim to be more sinned against than sinning, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger, if your wish is father to the thought, if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quoting Shakespeare; loose, if you have been tongue-tied, a tower of strength, hoodwinked or in a pickle.
