Recommended: Modern and traditional literature

“When you re-read a classic you do not see in the book more than you did before. You see more in you than there was before.” - Clifton Fadiman. Why should people read classic literature? I am arguing the point of why we should still read classic literature and how it’s relevant in today’s culture. In the quote it explains how all classics are great books and how when you read them it teaches things not only about the book but about yourself. When you re-read a classic you learn something new every time, no matter if it’s in the book or if something applies to your life. The classics also are also very entertaining stories, but they incorporate the lessons in them also. In the story of Genesis it talks about how God decided to flood the earth. …show more content…

Even though he was very rich he thought his happiness was brought to him by gold. One day one of Dionysus’ followers got lost and ended up at his castle so he returned him to the God of wine and the God granted him one wish. He decided he wanted everything he touched to be turned into gold. The God granted his wish, Midas went back and it was all good until he tried eating and drinking. Everything turned to gold eventually he got so hungry, he went back to find the God. He begged him to take the wish back and he agreed he told Midas to go to the river Pactolus and stand in it. Midas did as he was told and the magic flowed out of him and gold nuggets appeared in the water. This classic tells a very entertaining story that has a lot of things you can take from it. This story teaches on how you should never take anything for granted and how you need to be thankful for everything you have. The story of Midas affected the culture it was written because it shows what could happen if you weren’t humble but it also shows how sometimes you get a second chance. It also shows on how big of a role the Gods play in their culture. This story is entertaining

His intentions seem horrible, trying to kill humans because they have sinned, but in reality he is trying to free the world of sin so that the remaining humans will live wonderful lives free of pain and despair. The flood can be seen as both a positive and negative thing. To non-believers they may find fault in the idea that God felt that he had to punish the world as a result of how sinful the people of earth had become. To help promote their ideas they could use statements from the Bible such as this one when God's feelings are stated about how he seems to be dissatisfied with the people of earth, "The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain" (Genesis 6:6). It can also be revealed when God states, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth" (Genesis 6:13).
