Why Is Hunting Wrong

Hunting pre dates the human species, being around for millions of years. Long before any humanoids came into view. It was the main way of getting food before agriculture came. Various tools were used by the earliest humans from sharp spears, to simple traps, to regular old stones. Even when agricultural pursuits started to grow throughout the world hunting was still carried on to what we now call Hunting Season. The question is, is it wrong? Many believe so.(N.p., n.d. Web.)

During the 1940s and 50s, hunting had reached its all time peak. Many people enjoyed it, but as it grew, so did ethical and environmental controversies, sharply dividing opposers from supporters. The people believing in animal rights and environmentalists deemed …show more content…

For example, Trophy Hunting, which “involves killing the animal and taking it as a trophy.” Hunters will mount them to walls or stuff them and not really even use the meat for anything. Sometimes, hunters often fail to kill the targeted animal. This is known as an unsuccessful hunt. The animal that they wounded is left to die a slow painful death, never to be put out its misery. From an environmentalist’s point of view, hunting can damage ecosystems. You can only hunt so much of an animal until it becomes endangered, or worse, extinct. There’s also the problem of poaching. Poaching is “the killing of an animal that has some sort of value in it.” Elephants, for example, have tusks made of ivory and hunters kill them just to sell the tusks and make profit of them.(Lin, Doris. This may be true but there is also the problem of over hunting populations to the point of endangerment or extinction like the dodo bird or tasmanian tiger. Hunters would also say that hunting is a good way to get exercise and get know the outside environment. Well, there’s also the possibility of getting hurt by other hunters during hunting. Sometimes there are inexperienced hunters who accidentally shoot others mistaking them for an animal. this has happened many times before and is proof of why hunting is dangerous to people and animals all over the world.(Jadhav, Aparna. Now you see the dangers of hunting to humans and animals. Environmentalists and Animal rights activists are trying to save our animals and people from the dangers of what was once the main, and maybe only, way of getting food thousands and thousands of years ago.
