Why I Want To Pursue A Science Degree?

It is the natural human instinct to explain the world around us. Science is a tool to assess and initiate my world and things beyond it. It allows me to be in control because understanding gives me the power to betake myself and seize my potential. I take opportunities to further my education, and unlocking my potential in my areas of fascination, by taking classes over the summer and doing science competitions such as Quiz Bowl, as well as studying different topics based on my scientific interests. Through these demonstrations of scientific enterprise, I have faced and harnessed my competitiveness and how to equilibrise.
I was the team captain of my Quiz Bowl team. We competed in the first round at Brookhaven National Lab. We had practice every Wednesday and Friday morning and I devoted my time to studying outside of school on topics I had not learned yet such as chemistry. I formed a close bond with my teammates based off a mutual passion for competition and science. We pushed each other to work hard because we enjoyed what we did. One thing I realized during the competition that there was no time to think about the choices. It forced me to think on my feet and really tested what trivia I knew. It is what pushes me forward and drives me to take challenges, but in competitions and dealing with people smarter or older than me it can be frustrating and discouraging. However, I learned during the Quiz Bowl competition and practices that, while I may want to win, the real way to self-improvement is to accept the experience as a competition more with myself than with others.
