In our current setup of schools, we are forced to take certain classes that are provided. I personally believe that we should be able to choose which classes to complete once we hit high school. For the first year of high school it should be mandatory that we learn about our country along with classes that will benefit our career choices. So if I wanted to become a lawyer, I should be able to take classes that go along with my career.
First things first, we have the right to the pursuit of happiness which is being violated when it is mandatory to take classes nobody wants to take. Students would more than likely be happy to come to school if they had the choice to take what they wanted. We also have the right to express yourself. We can’t express ourselves or express our full potential doing things we hate the most. We have had math and english ever since elementary school until now, so we have learned basic math and english. So if it isn’t important in our intended career choice, then we shouldn’t have to take it once we get to high school.

We should be able to choose our own classes after learning about our country in American History 1 & 2, and Civics because it can benefit the student by letting them exceed in their strongest category. I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. My goals in college are to acquire the skills that I need to lead a successful and productive life, to expand my knowledge of the world, to step out of my comfort zone, and to become more proactive.
Compulsory education laws define America’s adolescent people today. Without these laws many people wouldn’t get the education they need in life or for their future. Compulsory education helps people develop or expand many skills that they will need in life, such as social and thinking skills. By abolishing compulsory education laws in the United States people wouldn’t develop such skills or be prepared for life ahead of them. By removing this you would have a generation full of young people who wouldn’t know how to think.
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to be better prepared for my major, I want to be better then the next person with the job credentials. I want to major in Social Work and Criminology. I dream to be a counselor or an clinical service social worker. I want to help people who need someone there for them someone who can guide them or even just talk too. Another reason is because I would be the first in I would be the first in my family to go to college. I feel in some type of way I am setting an example for my parents and my brother that they too can go back to school. Lastly is simply because I love school. I love knowing more and more each day. College is not for everyone, but I will be successful by grasping the benefits, preparing for the problems, taking heed from experts, and working on strategies to be successful.
My purpose and goals in attending college is to make something of my life. It is a good thing. No one wants to be a nobody. But sometimes it takes time in order for one to realize this. & nbsp; Upon graduation from high school, I, like the majority of others high school graduates, had no clue what direction my life was heading or even what I wanted to become.
One of the reasons for my dislike of high school is that I, like almost all other students, was required to take classes that were of no interest to me, whatsoever. Sure, there were classes that I partially enjoyed but that enjoyment quickly evaporated after a short while. At the time, I really wished I had the opportunity to “pick and choose” classes that I wanted to take. I thought it would all change when I started college. In ways it has. I am now able to choose classes I am most interested in, but I am also required to take elective and other classes that are unrelated to my major. Though, now, I am not so against it. I have actually enjoyed taking unrelated classes. This is because I have learned that there are, in fact, multiple benefits of taking classes outside of a major. Required classes are beneficial because they allow a student to discover unknown interests, gain a wider area of knowledge and expertise, as well as it gives that student the ability to use an area of knowledge from one area to aid in another.
Students should be required to get a diploma or a GED because of better job opportunities, go to college, and have a job that has higher wages. So, students that are still in high school it would be best if you stayed in school and get your high school
Throughout the world, students are encouraged to attend high school and continue their education. However, many students find it worthless and become uninspired. They blame the faculty, school policies, and fellow students, when they should be blaming themselves. Unchallenging course work is most likely a sign that the student isn’t taking a hard enough course. During my high school experience, students had the opportunity to take college courses through our high school. This gave the more advanced students a chance to practice the same routine as “normal” students, but still challenge and educate themselves. Abolishing high school would not solve any problems in our educational system. There are many ways to improve upon our school system; however, we need to start at the beginning.
Secondly, college is where a person goes to discover him/herself. This is one of the many goals of the college system, and that discovery process is hindered by unneeded, mandatory classes. Students should be able to try many different classes to discover what interests them the most, not to be fed knowledge that they very well might know already (and is perhaps of no interest to them). If required courses were eliminated, it would free up much time that students could then use to pursue their own interests. College exists to help people become unique individuals, not to put every person into the same standard mold.

We all can agree that the American Education System is not perfect. We have too many classes that are unnecessary and just causing more problems for our children. Classes such as Algebra are holding back student’s full potential by giving them a hard class that they probably won’t need in the future. There are other necessary classes that should replace ones such as Algebra. There should be a class in which children learn how to take over the world ( or at least a country)
Within recent decades, college has become a more easily available path than it has been for the past generations. In a current news release, The Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that, “Of the 2.9 million youth age 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between January and October 2014, about 68.4 percent were enrolled in college in October” (BLS Economic News Release from April 2015). When a student graduates high school, most of them intend to continue on to college. They have the idea that, while there, they can break away from all the general classes and just focus on what they want to learn. However, for almost all students, they find that this is not the reality. Just like high school, they find that they have to take approximately two years in general studies in order to attend and graduate with the major of their choice. General education classes should not be required because a majority of the information learned has already been covered in past years. Most of the courses do not benefit a student 's major, and the total amount of required hours for these classes can become a big waste of time and money.
General education classes also give a cohesion in the education process. By taking classes such as English, History, math, and science students are giving a “global understanding, cultural awareness, or ethical thinking” (Wehburg, 2010, p. 9) to students. These classes allow students to start their education process with an interconnection with each other and a structure to be able to pursue or change their goals.
In high school, students are responsible to get high grades in order to enter university and then choose their major. In school, students cannot pick the courses they want to study because it is mandatory. Class timing in high school is fixed and is schedules are not flexible. Most high school students are dependent on their teachers as well as their parents to remind them of their responsibilities. In university, on the other hand, students grow as individuals and they become independent. Their responsibility towards education becomes more valued to themselves because they are studying their desired major. Students must pick the courses that they are willing to study for every semester based on a guide. Not only that, but also they can choose the timings of the classes that suit them. There has been a number of debates as to whether college students should be given the opportunity to choose their courses. Like any contentious subject, while others are of the opinion that, courses should be chosen for college students, others believe that, students should be given complete freedom to choose the courses they would love to study. When students join college, they are forced to study for subjects they do not want to. Many students complain that they are not allowed to choose subjects they are interested in; rather, they are forced to take compulsory subjects. In addition, students complain that, they are forced to spend their entire years in college doing things they really do not need.
