The Social Work profession is not the type of work for just anyone. It requires you to have a strong moral compass, the dedication and passion to want to help people, and the ability to put your personal beliefs to the side so you can learn from others you meet in the field. Having a Masters Degree in Social Work is something I aspired to obtain since I took my first Sociology class in high school. I loved the course and everything you were able to learn. Sociology is not a course that is always straightforward or black and white like many other courses you take in high school and college. Sociology is a course where you have to develop your own thoughts and opinions while opening yourself up to the opportunity to learn lessons from people that are so different from yourself. It is about building a connection with people who may have different experiences, life lessons, dreams and or beliefs than you. I am a huge people person and helping someone is a passion that I have had for as long as I can remember. I love meeting new individuals and learning from them. I find myself being the type of person that can start a conversation with anyone. With my current career I am a Care Coordinator at PLOWS Council On Aging and I go to three local hospitals to assess individuals to see if they qualify to go to rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities. I love my job so much because I get to meet different people everyday and make a difference in their lives by helping them even if its in a small way. I enjoy Social Work so much because its about going out and making a difference in a person’s life. It might not be something that changes their lives but every small act
