The Bosnian genocide all started because the government of Yugoslav republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina declared its independence from Yugoslavia. The Serb forces targeted both Bosniak and Croatian civilians resulting in the death of 100,000 people.
This genocide took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina as these were the two countries that were fighting. The ‘’Bosnian War’’ took place in 1992-1995. The people targeted in the Bosnian genocide were mostly civilians.

The Bosnian Serb military are the ones who started and committed the Bosnian genocide and other crimes against humanity. The ICTY charged over 160 individuals for crimes they have committed during the conflict in Yugoslavia.

The reason this genocide happened is because Bosnia declared its independence from Yugoslavia, because of this the Serb military killed thousands of Bosnian civilians. This was the worst act of genocide since the Nazis while 6 million jews were killed. …show more content…

The Serbian paramilitary group killed hundreds of Bosniak civilians in the town of Bijeljina. This group did not want Bosnian muslims so they decided to kill a mass amount of them. The estimated number of deaths during this genocide is 8,372.

In 1993 the United Nation declared Srebrenica, a protected area with no military. The Serbian forces did not accept this ‘’protected area’’, so they kept sending in forces to block off resources for the Bosnian muslims.
