Self governance is when people rule themselves and govern their very own affairs. In the United States of America, we vote for our commander and chief by majority rule, through the electoral college. It is a public responsibility to use our rights that are given to us to make our country a better place. Americans take for granted the rights that the Constitution gives us on an everyday basis. She uses a quote from President Obama that stated young women stand a better chance of being sexually assaulted on a campus than in the world outside (Tolman). Obviously there is a problem that needs to be addressed not just on college campuses, but with America. The estimated percentages of completed or attempted rape victimization among women in college is around 23% over the course of a college career. The Attorney General 's Office has a history of leading the country when it comes to to creating laws and regulations that protect the innocent. It could be gun laws, LGBT rights, or consumer protections. To help fight this tragedy of sexual assault Tolman gives us common sense tips, such as getting everyone on the same page when it comes to reporting and defining sexual assault. We also should convene an annual summit where colleges can teach students what to do when they get into an uncomfortable situation. As a country we should learn to take it upon ourselves to help the women in our country feel safe and protected. We need to take these matters into our own hands and solve them. The solutions are not difficult, but they require a pure sense of kindness from the people in local communities and everywhere else in the United States. Since a woman is a potential candidate for this up and coming presidency this article is extremely relevant to women’s rights and really shows how serious sexual assault has been recently.
