Getting a higher education in the twenty-first century seems like a normal thing to do after graduating high school. In reality a little more the thirty percent of the US does not end up going to college (Norris, Floyd). In most cases the purpose of going to college is to get a degree related to the field of work that one wants to pursue as a career. The majority of people who go to receive a higher education tend to have the same goal. One of the downfalls to a higher education is that it can be expensive, and that can turn some people away. Colleges are trying to make it as affordable as possible so someone can get the education that they desire from the school of their choice. For some people, going to college is not in their future and they plan on going into a family business. Getting a higher education benefits a person because they are more likely to get a job with better pay. Going to college takes a lot of time and money, and when someone is deciding whether or not to continue their education they have to weigh the pros and cons. It all depends on what someone wants to go to college for. Some people go to college just for the social aspect of it. It may not be the wisest reason to go to college for, but it is that person’s decision. Others want to go get a higher education so that they can achieve a degree and get the dream job they have always wanted since their childhood. Another group of people that will go to college are the ones who feel like they should go, just because it is the normal thing to do after high school. Going to college, even if it is for these reasons is still benefitting them in ways they don’t know, such as having a fall back if the job they planned on getting doesn’t hire them.
