The Holocaust was a genocide that happened in Germany throughout the years of 1933-1945. The Germans and their supporters massively murdered many Jews to protect and reach their goal of having an Aryan race. The novel We Are Witnesses by Jacob Boas is a collection of four diaries written by the four children that were victims of the Holocaust. In this novel the themes found are fear, humanity, appreciation, and survival. A running story throughout the novel is the idea of people being good or evil. Humans are capable of being good but choose to follow evil and make the good suffer. Eva, Moshe, David, and Yitzhak were all victims of the Holocaust. Throughout the diaries, they each explain their endurance of harsh treatment by the Germans. Eva was pushed into a car because of her injured feet. Genocide was the Rwandan genocide which happened recently in 1994. Although not as many people were killed, it was still as bad because innocent people were killed to satisfy an individual with his followers. Humanity is becoming an issue because no one is thinking rationally anymore. It is now just, “He’s an enemy, Kill him,” and that is not right because of the massive lives they are taken. The worst part is that it takes a long time for countries to get involved and help out the people. Yes it may cause many lives but it 's for a cause of saving innocent people from dying just for people’s satisfaction. Looking around in neighborhoods and seeing that people are shot by gangs to satisfy their ego or in other words to make sure you are not portrayed as weak when someone that disobeys you. Humanity is no longer humane, now it is wild as a tiger having no feelings whatsoever as to whom they hurt as long as they survive.
