Waterbug Persuasive Essay Social media is a disastrous plague that has been quickly made its way through society in the last decade. The moment someone clicks “create” to set up their new twitter or instagram profile their life could begin to spiral out of control. Social media has become a worldwide problem because of individuals being bullied based on their sexualtiy or character, leading to lack of productivity from distractions, and even causing later life problems because of something you posted in high school. Many people struggle with being bullied for their sexuality and character. Unlike more accustomed types of bullying, cyberbullying “takes place using electronic technology” and has more solitary threats (Wright). Bullying online is a more indirect way of abusing someone by allowing them to hide behind a glass screen. Throughout their social media career “25% of teenagers and adolescents” have experienced bullying on a regular basis (Webster). Lots of young people are involved in this violence repeatedly. In the 2012 the United States spent “121 billion minutes” as a whole on social media, that is around 6.5 hours or 380 plus minutes per person (Popkin). United States citizens are spending around 25% of their time online instead of working or learning. The lower educated people of the world are spending more time online than those with a higher education level (Marketing Chart Staff). Those with lower education levels are wasting time online instead of becoming more educated. Owners of business’ spend on average “almost 50% more time” than individuals who work for those owners (Marketing Chart Staff).
