In Northern Uganda there is war, killings, rebels, military, but along with that is happiness, passion, and dancing. The movie War Dance takes place in 2005 in a little village called Patongo in Northern Uganda. This village is under 24/hr. military protection from the rebels. The rebels are after anybody that they can get their hands on but mostly children. Patongo village is mainly orphans due to the rebels tearing families apart. The movie follows three children that have been through a lot in the short life. Dominic a rebel camp escapee, Nancy who is trying to help her siblings stay strong and Rose who witnessed the killings of her parents and trying to stay strong. The narration by the kids telling their stories of how their parents got killed or abducted gives you a personal connection to them. You feel the pain that they are going through and at the same time see the strength in their eyes as they are able to move on and do bigger and better things. I thought the way the music and cinematography that was put together capture what the village had to offer and the ways that they lived. The flashback while kids were speaking of their tragic events in the past gave you the feeling that you were their watching it happen. The movie made you think and imagine what it would be like to see your parents get killed, family getting abducted, and to even have to kill someone at a young age as Dominic had to. Dominic recalled a memory when he and some others where surrounded by the rebels in the bush. The rebels forced Dominic and to kill innocent people with their own hoes. He knew that if he didn’t kill them the rebels would have killed him. Through dancing he is able to forget about those bad memoires that he has in his mind. War Dance wanted to hit important criteria in a film so that they could portray the events that these kids go through. Most people wouldn’t think that events like this would be happening if they weren’t showed to them. That’s what War Dance had to do was show the message that they village of Patongo is trying to
