Recommended: The importance of vaccination in disease control

In developing countries, many people don’t have the access to imperative medical necessities such as vaccines. Many of these developing countries can’t afford basic health networks, leaving many people living without reliable health care. Vaccines are able to save many lives and are used to prevent diseases from inflicting severe sicknesses. Once someone has been vaccinated, their body then builds a resistance to that certain disease and that disease will no longer have any major effect on them. (NPS Medicine Wise, 2012) As the prices of vaccines increase, the more difficult it is for underprivileged people to acquire them. (PLOS, 2013) Australia should financially contribute to vaccine programs in developing countries as it would not only benefit ourselves.
Many lives would be saved with the help of vaccines. Vaccines have the power to prevent serious illnesses and make multiple more lives safer. In 2007, 70% of the deaths of children under the age of 5 were from diseases that could have been prevented or treated. The people who require the most medical attention are in remote and distant areas, so once they are sick or infected, it is hard for them to receive treatment. Vaccine programs set up medical clinics in remote communities so people who require medical attention can receive needed treatment. (AIHW, 2014) It has been recorded that there are still 400 million people worldwide that don’t have access to basic and necessary health services. (WHO, 2015) Immunizations are one of the most influential, powerful and cost effective health inventions so far which are capable of saving millions of lives. The method involved taking substances from an open wound of someone with small-pox or cow-pox and injecting it into another person’s skin, also called “arm-to-arm inoculation”.
