Vaccinations have been a controversial topic for many years. Even though it has been proven that vaccinations work there are still questions. Is vaccinating my child the right thing to do? Parents now a day wonder if vaccinating their child benefits or give them a disadvantage. Studies had shown that vaccinating children has a benefit to the child’s health. Vaccinating children helps with preventing illnesses and protecting them. Most important, it has decrease the number of deaths of children and adults thought out the years. (Petts & Niemeyer, 2004)
For many years medicals and researchers have been trying to find a way to prevent illness. The way they could decrease the amount of people going to the hospital because of a disease has been encouraging them to get vaccinated. There are many vaccinations that have been made to prevent illnesses, such as, the MMR, pertussis, flu shot, hepatitis and many other ones. The way these vaccines works is creating antibodies for your body to battle the bacteria. It creates an immune system that is specific for a type of illness or disease. Studies have shown that if you don’t vaccinate, then you are putting yourself and everyone around you at risk of getting a disease or illness. The people that are more susceptible of getting a disease are babies, children and elderly adults because their immune system isn’t strong to combat bacteria. This means that they should vaccinate so their immune system can protect their body for any illness. Even though a vaccination doesn’t secure the possibility of not having a disease it can decrease it. However, if someone has a disease that were vaccinated against it, then the body already knows how to combat it, which will be a good outcome rather than a bad one if they didn’t do anything to prevent it.
