In the beginning of my first semester at Claflin University, I did not understand the reasoning behind the University 101 and 102 courses. However, as the time progressed, I learned to understand the significance of the courses. The University courses were created to guide students through their first year in college, but there are some positive and negative aspects of it. Although University 102 is uninteresting at times, I admire the fact that my instructors try to inform the students about internship opportunities and scholarships. Most professors do not seek out scholarship and other opportunities for their students, but my University 102 instructors stress the importance of applying for internships and scholarships. First of all, I feel as if the University 102 class should only be scheduled on Mondays because I do not understand the logic behind attending the class three times per a week. Secondly, I disagree with the mandatory community service due to the fact that it is unnecessary and my grade should not be determined by my good deeds. As a freshman in college, it is already difficult to adjust to the college lifestyle and the mandatory community service is overbearing. Community service should be optional because in the real word, nobody will force a person to give back to their community. Therefore, community service is ineffective if someone is forced to participate in order to receive a good grade in University 102. Overall, I could not have asked for a better University 102 class. In spite of all the misunderstanding and conflicts, my University 102 is the best because we are always supporting one another. My professors are demanding, but it is obvious that they want all of the students to succeed in college. Without my University 102 course, I would not have learned how to deal with my fellow classmates in the classroom and
