Introduction Background

Unemployment is the problem experienced by many South Africans due to lack of job opportunities. There are job opportunities in South Africa but most of these job opportunities favour educated and skilled people but it does not favour unskilled and the people who are not educated. Unemployment is a big problem because in other families you find that there’s no one working and some families die of hunger. This is a very devastating situation because other families don’t have money to fulfil their basic needs such as food, shelter, water, clothes and even paying the children’s school fees. Unemployment is influenced by lack of education because in the African tradition many people are home skilled, they are used to doing hand work which is not enough to get them proper jobs, and seen that technology is taking over these people are left behind. Many African were colonised by British men as they took them to work as slaves and when they come back it was too late for them to get proper education. The best way to combat unemployment according to African traditional worldview is to practice the spirit of UBUNTU. In the spirit of Ubuntu it is whereby we help each other for example if I have bread and my neighbour has butter, my neighbour should borrow me the butter and I will give my neighbour the bread. According to Anon (2014) An African expression of Ubuntu says: “Your pain is my pain, my wealth is your wealth, and your salvation is my salvation.” The government must provide unemployed people with a social grant that will help them to cover their costs and look after themselves and also provide deserving learners with bursaries to go to school so that they can have the best education they can get to secure their future.
