Diabetes: Diabetes is a condition where the body’s blood sugar is above normal. The body’s blood sugar is called glucose. Glucose is released in the body after eating. As blood Glucose levels rise, the hormone insulin is released into the blood stream. Insulin’s function is to help glucose levels decrease by helping glucose enter the body’s cells. People with diabetes have a problem with their insulin. Type 2 diabetics can produce insulin but their insulin is ineffective leading to insulin resistance. The increased glucose levels have an effect on other parts of the body as well, like the kidneys, eyes, nerves and the heart. Increasing risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, and kidney disease.

Kidney Disease:

The Kidneys play a vital role in the body. The kidney cleanses the blood of wastes and also plays a part in electrolyte balance. Once the kidneys stop working it results into kidney failure. Kidney failure can occur in an acute situation or due to a chronic disease like diabetes that gradually causes kidneys to stop functioning. A Urine test analyzes a sample of the patient’s urine may reveal abnormalities that point to chronic kidney failure and help identify the cause of chronic kidney disease. One the abnormalities are the presence of albumin in the urine. Albumin is a protein found in the blood. A healthy kidney does not let albumin pass into the urine. A damaged kidney lets some albumin pass into the urine, the fewer albumins in your urine, the better. Albumin can be detected by a dipstick test. The dipstick test involves using chemically treated paper to detect albumin in the urine sample. If the presence of albumin is found then the treating paper will change color.
