Most of the time, society looks at people differently, especially when people come from all over the world. We expect people to look a certain way, act a formal way as well, be a certain color and have the “dream body”. If people were able to look at everything with a different perspective, society would probably not have a trouble in the world such as with different religion, from different beliefs and the kinds of gods they pray to, or their cultural differences. Then again, we are all different. We do not have to necessarily end our differences, but with a different view of things, we can at least help make a safe, diverse world. People have always looked at people differently for many reasons. Whether someone is a different color than another person, or is probably richer than another person. For example, in the short story, “The Stolen Party” by Liliana Heker talks about a girl named Rosaura and her mother talking about Luciana’s party. Her mother tells her, “‘I don’t like you going,’ she told her. “‘It’s a rich people’s party.’” …. “You know what you are to them? The maid’s daughter, that’s what.” This clearly shows how the mother has limited experiences towards people with different social class. She looks at them differently for the fact that she has not had much contact with other people that have different social class and how she has worked for them. We can also infer that Rosaura’s mother may not like the higher social class because she has worked for them, and probably treated her as if she was different, maybe her skin color, or the way she dresses, or her hair type. In contrast, looking at people without an open mind, will lead to limited experiences because of you/others may look at people differently because of their social
