Many people don't really know about ancient Egypt but it was one very interesting place. By the way, the people dressed all the way to how they mummified the pharaohs and important people for the afterlife. There is just a lot of things to learn about ancient Egypt, but I'm going to narrow it down and talk about the social pyramid of Ancient Egypt.
Ancient Egypt social pyramid is arranged to where the Pharos and those of deity were at the top, and slaves and servants made up the bottom of the pyramid. Okay so at the top you had pharos then under them, you have Government officials, priests, and nobles. Below them you had soldiers and scribes, then merchants and artisans. At the bottom of the heap, you had farmers, slaves, and servants. No single person at all could not do their job without a supervisor.

They could have different things/jobs to do such as.Recording history and important events, describing everyday life, writing up contracts, taking a census of ancient Egypt, calculating taxes, recording court cases, keeping track of food supply, keeping calculations for the pharaoh and government officials. Scribes were taught how to write hieroglyphs on wood, pottery, stone, and if they were lucky, and after lots of practice papyrus ( A type of paper made from papyrus, a tough water plant). Also, a scribe could come from anywhere in the social pyramid. It was hard learning to be a scribe, you had to work hard, and harsh punishment, such as beatings.Soldiers protected Egypt from outside attacks and ended up springs. Pyramids, gold, the Nile, hieroglyphics, gods and goddesses…no matter how much we know about it, we all see one of these things when we picture Egypt. However, this image is not complete without the Pharaoh. Not much in Egypt was. So to be considered “The Last Great Pharaoh of Egypt” is quite an honor, an honor that Ramesses III carries. A ruler in the time of the New Kingdom, he gave Egypt a few more years of glory before it’s decline.
In Egypt the Pharaoh was considered to be the “holy leader” or God of the Egyptian people. We read and understood that his law was never questioned much just like Hammurabi’s law. As people of that time “never chastised the pharaoh for simply doing his job, because he gave the nation his best.” We know he “did” his “job” in promoting peace and prosperity, but what was the Pharaoh’s real job. Was the Pharaoh meant to keep cultures civilized like Hammurabi, or was he created as a symbol of hope and betterment to the people of Egypt? Or was it
Similar to Byzantium and Rome, in Egyptian society, the King was the most powerful figure, and everyone else was seen as lesser beings. Unlike Byzantium and Rome, Egypt had a king or pharaoh whereas Byzantium and Rome had an emperor.
Society formed three main social groups. This new social pyramid is executed in Image 2 (Document 1: The Royal Standard of Ur). The mosaic artwork depicts three scenes stacked upon each other in horizontal strips. At the bottom men are burdened with heavy sacks of food on their backs. These people are apart the lowest social rank: workers and slaves. The picture above illustrates the second tier of the society are farmers, probably the middle class, as people leading animals and carrying fish. On the top is a king, large in size compared to the others in the image, and his subjects at a party enjoying drinks and live music. The main social classes were the wealthy and powerful, agriculturalists, and the lachrymose workers. Social status determined housing conditions. A clear example of social division is Image A: Early Egyptian City. The illustration is divided into two sections. On one side of the Egyptian city there are small, crude buildings conglomerated together. These buildings are inhabited by the poor. On the opposite side of the picture, the buildings are more defined and a majority are spread farther apart. Some buildings are even standing on an individual plot of land. Pharaohs had the authoritative role in ancient Egypt and were worshiped just like the gods. Having the most power in ancient Egypt, the pharaoh owned all the land and the people. While the pharaoh was still living he had the responsibility to keep the land in the condition where people can live there and would not starve, but if he died the role could have been passed on to his eldest son (Jovinelly28).
Society-Peasants and farmers made up the bulk of the population however the land was owned by the pharaoh or one of the temples which were very wealthy. Peasants were also subjected to tax labor and were at times required to do public projects such as irrigation or construction
Egypt relied on their pharaohs to rule and run their county. Amenhotep III was the ninth pharaoh of the 18th dynasty; he ruled as pharaoh for a long period and achieved a significant amount of development in national and foreign affairs. He has been known as one of the best pharaohs that the world has seen. While Amenhotep was ruler of his era, it was known as the period of peace and prosperity. This allowed him to build many of the impressive structures that are found throughout Egypt today. He went on military campaigns and not only strengthened but expanded the boarders of Egypt throughout his campaigns. Amenhotep III was a successful pharaoh because he completed the roles of a pharaoh exceptionally well; these roles are High Priest, Administrator and Military commander. His name ‘Amenhotep’ means that the gods are satisfied.

As king, the pharaoh had many duties that were civic and religious. The people saw him as the living Horus and the son of Ra. They believed only pharaoh could sacrifice to the gods and only the pharaoh could appoint the priests to serve the gods in his place. The people believed that he became Osiris after death and would continue to help his people in the afterlife. Pharaoh was the commander-in-chief of the army and the highest judge in the land. The people saw the pharaoh as essential for keeping their lives in balance and keeping harmony in Egypt. His rule was absolute.
Ancient Egypt was a single tightly organized state for much of its history (Centanni, n.d.). In all its phases, the Egyptian government was led by the pharaoh. The pharaoh was held to be descended from gods, with the power to assure success and control the rituals that assured the flow of the Nile and the fertility derived from irrigation. Wanting gods to favor Egypt, the entire population of people did not hesitate to carry out laws that the pharaoh placed upon them. Egyptians cherished family life the way we cherish food or money. Children were considered a blessing. They prayed for them and used magic to have children, but if a couple could not conceive they adopted. Men were the head of the household and the oldest son inherited everything of the father’s. Egyptian women were to obey their fathers and husbands, but were equal in many other ways. For example, women could have jobs, some rights in court cases, and they were able to own land. Women were also allowed to own businesses. Only noble women, however, could be priestesses. The women raised the children and took care of the house. Wealthy families would hire maids and nannies to do such things. Divorce was not common in Ancient Egypt, though it was an option. Problems were talked about between families, and if they could not be settled a divorce would take place. Some women became rulers but only in secret. The only woman who ruled as a pharaoh in the open was Queen Hatsheput. Ordinary men normally had one wife, while pharaohs and kings had several. Most marriages were arranged by parents. Most girls married at age twelve while boys were usually a little older.
Like the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians also believed in god and goddesses and was one of the first to develop their unique writing system called hieroglyphics. Egyptian’s also were the first to construct triangular pyramids with magnificent tombs to bury their dead pharaohs and queens. The pharaoh was the supreme ruler of Egypt. The people believed the pharaoh was a god among men. He had a divine contract among the god to which he would build monuments to them, and in return the gods would protect Egypt and regulate the flooding of the Nile River (“Egypt, Ancient: Social Organization”, 2004). The contract of the gods came as a great responsibility to the pharaohs. They must keep order of their subjects and the records. Pharaohs proclaimed laws and duties to citizens. Egyptian Social Structure says that the laws were enacted at the discretion of the the pharaoh (2013). Also, pharaohs must control the surplus of food and the Nile River in order to remain the supreme ruler. The pharaohs would proclaim taxes to benefit the entire the kingdom. The surplus of food was maintained by the lower classes, such as the farmers paying grain for their taxes (“Egyptian Social Structure”, 2013).
